Coordination: I DONT HAZ IT

Yesterday, I was wearing flip flops and, as I made my way out of the lab, I breezed by a guy with a dolly. My unbuttoned sweater flapped out and got caught on one of the dolly's handles. It jerked me backwards (wow, strong sweater material) and because I was in flip flops on tile, my legs went skidding out from underneath me. I twisted to catch myself because my legs were going one way and my upper body another (stupid sweater!). I think I wrenched something in my left knee as a result. Le SIGH.

The best part is where I did all this while trying to scoot between two guys lingering in the doorway. Nothing makes a humiliatiing whoopsie better than doing it with an audience!

Ouchie! Sorry about your knee!

Did the guys at least ask if you were ok? I've found, over many many falls and near falls, that people will be all 'I am concered for you!' if you actually fall and more 'Wow that girl's a dork and hey that reminds of this one time I almost slipped in the snow, lemme blab about it while the girl is still walking in front of us totally humiliated!' if you nearly fall.

They were very solicitous. I was just all "I AM TOTALLY FINE" as my face exploded red. It's like--have you ever heard Dane Cook's bit about seeing a guy get hit by a car? He talks about how the guy--who has been hit by a car--is trying to play it off like it never happened, like he's embarrassed that it did. That was me. Not my fault, but yeaaaah.

People almost falling are kind of funny, so long as it wasn't a serious near-slip (like on ice or someplace dangerous), so you're right that no one is like "Oh man! Let me help!" Weird.

I have heard that Dane Cook bit! Unfortunately, my spaz moments are usually followed by angry cursing that makes people think I'm a total asshole, so I never really get a chance to play it off like it never happened.

True story: I was learning to ride a bike and didn't know how to brake. Went right into the back of a parked car. Kid I knew from school walked by and I actually said "I MEANT TO DO THAT" or some variation thereupon. ::headdesk::
