Much thanks to the always excellent [livejournal.com profile] deepredbelle for this: The first nine minutes of Serenity. I'm forwarding this along for the few people on my friends list who haven't been converted to Firefky cultists yet. In particular, I humbly beseech the much beloved [livejournal.com profile] umeyard to watch this with the much related [livejournal.com profile] arcfox7 to convince you both to go see Serenity. I just watched it again and now I'm even more determined to go see it again, even if it means going on my own, though I've gotten a couple of offers to come with (Matt, remind me to burn you that Bebop CD--and do you still need the season 2 premiere of LOST?)....

More Serenity cult updates:
All but one of my siblings have been converted. Drew got in touch with me to tell me that the theme song to Firefly has been in her head for the past week and she just finished Jaynestown and loves it to death.

Devin had a friend who didn't make the outing last Saturday who she plans on taking some time this weekend.

One of the first things my roommate Lisa asked me when I got home was if we could watch more Firefly tonight.

Yes, it's been a good day to be a geek. Except, you know, for the Smallville suckage...Why do I even bother?

Whoo-hoo, converting Browncoats! My roommate's girlfriend is here for the weekend, and is busy as we speak making her finish "Bushwhacked."

I was briefly horrified and confused when I thought you were referring to the movie Bushwhacked, but that doesn't make any kind of sense.

Wow, you just made reference to a Daniel Stern project. Good job even knowing that existed...

Smallville. Man, I tried. I really did. I might consider watching it once Lana dies a million fiery horrible deaths.

YAY SERENITY. (No you're always excellent, pshaw.) Seeing it again tomorrow night with the husband, and again on Saturday. Need to get those box office numbers UP. (Speaking of, you of SV watchage -- was there an ad for the BDM with review taglines? I've been waiting all goddamn week for them to start airing spots with the raves attached and have been denied thus far. Universal, WTF?)

I, too, saw Smallville and found it to be better than pretty much all of last season's episodes...

but yes, they did have a commercial with those rave reviews! I hope that gets people into the theaters this weekend. And it's a long weekend, so folks are bound to get bored... *fingers crossed*

Damn yooooooooou! Damn you alll!

Guess what I just bought. =P

It should be here next week... whence I will watch it like an addict...

Yeah, I've seen the review trailers, and it's not terribly different from the original trailers. The problem I've heard from my brother and his gf is that they just don't look interesting enough to get them to see it on top of them not having any background with the series.

Seriously though, thanks for that link. I have major ammo in a "Is the movie ret-conning?" discussion on my friend's journal. I haven't figured out a hundred percent whether I think it is. My defenses against ret-conning are limited, and to make it work there's some twists and turns that aren't supported by canon but not outright banned by them either (it's a Whedon-verse, anything goes!). We'll see.

Also, must must must go see it again. Am gonna treat my mother to the movie because she has no one to go with and my roommate Lisa thinks she's so cool that it would be fun to go with her. My mother got me into Buffy and now she's going to go see Serenity with me. MEGATONBERRY HEARTING.

Oooh! You have to make others at school watch, too! They've got to be geeks, MD/PhD candidates, right? Then make them see the movie and make them make others see the movie.

This gorilla marketing stuff really works!!!

*crosses toes too* With the plethora of big Hollywood names assaulting the BO this weekend, I'm hoping Serenity can somehow manage to stay in the top five. Is that too much to ask, world? I know I should be grateful for the one movie, but...there are more stories to tell, dammit.

I just can't take Smallville seriously. For every episode that hooks me in, there's another that tosses me right back into the water. Which is a shame, because I know I would love it if it could manage to come to grips with its own mythos...and keep gripping it. (That sounds a bit pornish, but you know what I mean.)

Oh, man, I still have a whole post in me on that front. Waiting 'til after the fourth and fifth viewings to get a better grip on my outlook, though. Would loooove, of course, to hear your thoughts on certain matters, 'cos BOY are they MATTERS.

I already know my brother will love the movie -- besides, he's genetically obligated. But my parents? Hmm. My mom LOVED Buffy (oh, how she cried when Oz left -- for real), so I think she'd immediately take to Kaylee and Wash, but she's a person I'd almost rather break on the series first, and then the movie. My dad, on the other hand, would be a Mal guy all the damn way. Hell, I'm in NC for a week at the end of the month. Maybe I'll force them all to see it, whee! "Mom, Dad, I know you haven't seen me in three years and probably want to talk and stuff -- but can we do it during this Firefly marathan we're about to sit through -- where you're not talking?"

Actually, you'd be surprised how few geeks there are in my school. Everyone is boringly normal.

The BeBop CD would be great, but [livejournal.com profile] darkling1 got me the Lost premiere. (Thanks, E!)

Which U2 albums do you need? Everything before Achtung Baby!, or do you have some early ones, too?

Hey, that's what I did with my sister! I went home to see her and we spent most of the weekend apart. I made her watch some Firefly and let her go shopping on her own. But it worked! She loves Firefly and I think I've convinced her to go see the movie!

That's...that cannot be. Everyone in my friend Liz's school seems to be pretty nerdy, and nerdy and geeky go hand in hand! You must convert them.

I have the ones you burned for me already and I have How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb on my own. So, any? You don't have to make nice cases or anything for them, just having them rubber-banded together would do.

I'll make that CD when I get home tonight....whenever that ends up being.

I've got a color printer/scanner/copier, so it's really quite easy. Takes a minute or two, if that.

If you are really realy nice to me, once i get the nifty thing to transfer tapes to cd, i will burn you a copy of all the B-sides that were never released in the US inclusing the original B Side of the song "Sweetest Thing" thats almost 20 years old now....and Paint it Black, Pop Music, and a few others....never knew you were a U2 fan...how the heck did i miss that?!?!?

Ooh, that'd be fun.

And I'm not the hugest U2 fan on the planet. I know their most famous songs, I bought their latest album because it was cheap at one store when I was in a must-buy crunch (devin's b-day last year), and my friend got tickets to the concert in Boston, so I went. I'm becoming better versed in them, fer sure. I mean, they're huge.

Yikes
okay so your brother and I are the only hold outs then?

So i guess all the comericials ARE right
Serenity is the new Star Wars (the comparing it to the first one here, of the fourth one, whatever....if you go in order the first one you DONT see JarJar in)
