[livejournal.com profile] umeyard help me out here with the legal stuff and Washington? Where in this does it say donating money to charity in someone else's name qualifies as HARASSMENT?

Yes, that's right. I'm going to have an aneurysm if [livejournal.com profile] xannoside doesn't knock off referring me this stuff. Remember our heroes at Penny Arcade? Jack Thompson isn't smart enough to deal with them so he's trying to coerce law enforcement to do it (start with the letter, one up from the bottom, and then move onto the piece de resistance: the actual check the PA guys sent to charity).

This man is a flipping psycho. I'm this close to purchasing THIS just to show my support. It would be better spent $20, however, to donate to charity. Better not to hate, even if it makes money for fairly decent guys. I think it would be hi-larious if this touched off a massive donation from the gamer community, all of which would be in Jack Thompson's name. Some hundred years into the future, they'll think he was the greatest humanitarian lawyer (not an oxymoron, really!) ever, and won't that be the sweetest revenge?

I suspect BSD would have a better perspective, but this sounds like political scare tactics in quasi-legal clothing. How did Gabe and Tycho get the letter? Did Thompson cc them on it?

I suspect if he thought he had anything even resembling a case, he'd have claimed libel and taken them to court directly. The fact that he's trying to create an illusionary criminal suit says to me he knows he doesn't have much, and wants to create enough confusion to scare P-A off.

I'm jus waiting for some enterprising P-A fan to find the address of Thompson's legal practice (it must be listed somewhere--how would he attract clients otherwise?) and post it to a messageboard or three. Because we know someone would do it, and then things really get ugly.

His address is on his website, and the Flordia bar website, and his phone number as well.

You can google him ;)

Welcome to Seattle.

Here is a thought...this is a true story. Man and woman are married, the woman has an affair. Man finds out and freaks out. Woman has man arrested for rape...Get this...the woman says that since she was married, and she wanted to have more then one partner, he was using marriage as excuse to force her to have sex with him only against her consent since she wanted multiple partners, thus its rape. Since he also "attempted" to "force" her to live by his idea of what marriage should be it was "emotional abuse" because he expected her to be faithful. Again...welcome to Seattle.

If you are a lawyer in Seattle you can make a ton of money. Nothing and everything is illegal there. Its one of the reasons I was so unhappy there. Also in my divorce it was proven that I was in the wrong because my husband was having countless affairs. He was married not dead, and who was I to try to force my moral stance on him. Thus per my divorce even though he was the one having the affiar, i was the one who was cited for extreme emotional abuse for attempting to force him to live a lifestyle against his will.

Nothing surprises me in Washington anymore. Also when i spoke out against my roomate illegally soliciting money for a phoney company i almost got sued for slander. Surprisingly she was not able to press charges since she was doing what i claimed. But that did not stop her from trying.

In WA you can sue for just about anything. Get creative. Make stuff up. you will be able to find a lawyer to take your case. Sounds to me like this donation stuff would fall under "false use of his name, lible, defimation of character, and harrassment". Its a joke to me, but very serious there.
