I am going to murder the company man who refills the downstairs soda machine when next I see him. Nothing personal, I'll say, but your machine has probably eaten something close to $5 of mine in the past year. Yes, $5 isn't much, but it's an annoyance that compounds my guilt at paying through the nose as it is for chilled Diet Pepsi I shouldn't be drinking anyway.

Today's escapades with said soda machine involved the damn thing not registering when I'd put in a nickel. It got it okay when I put in a $1 coin, but didn't credit me that mysterious missing nickel. I hit the change button to get back the coins, hoping against hope the nickel would be among my change, but alas, no. I steered clear of nickels, and subsequently lost a dime and a quarter, the latter after unsuccessfully jamming it into the machine to try and jar loose my extra change. I wouldn't have tried ever again, but I was mislead by it registering some of my change after it ate the first bits.

I gave up and went and bought my soda from the cafeteria. I am going to murder the man who collects money from that machine.

Have you considered buying your Diet Pepsi at the supermarket, perhaps in six-packs? That typically involves fewer coins and less bloodshed...

I already buy the cans I drink at lunch that way. I guess I could start bringing two cans to work and leaving one in the fridge here. I use the expense to keep myself from buying, mostly. The murder, well, the murder might make me reconsider this option.

I haven't been able to find the connector for my camera (wherein lies photographic evidence), but thought I'd pass along a giant sign that someone tacked up on the soda machine last week:

Coke gives nothing
Apple Juice gives seltzer
Pepsi gives water
Ginger Ale gives water
Diet Coke cans are empty

(In a different color ink:) Phone number does not answer.

While the diet coke cans now have actual liquid in them, apparently my coworker got gatorade after pressing water. I don't even think there's a button for gatorade on that machine.

I really can't imagine how hard it is to get a damn soda machine working correctly. However, this seems to be an alarmingly widespread problem.

I love my workplace, I can buy 20 ounce bottles of various sodas and things for 75 cents! :)

Mine has free sodas in the fridge, but I use them sparingly. Although, I did take an OJ today...mmm, folate!
