America: the book--the Calendar! presents the following insight into the political symbols of the two parties:

The Democratic Party's symbol, the donkey, represents the type of stubbornnes that forces a town council to put a menorah up in the square alongside the Christmas tree even though the town only has five Jewish families.

The Republican Party's symbol, the elephant, represents the astounding memory of people who, if you say anything bad about them ever, file it away in Rolodex out of spite...and then trample you to death.

Food for though, no?

I should think, rather ... the stubbornness that forces the removal of the Christmas tree and the menorah, to satisfy the one atheist in town.

::grins::

That was the evolution of that stubbornness, not the traditional aspect, I guess.

Besides, what with the tax cuts and everything, we can scarcely afford the extravagance!
