It's been a good day...
Jul. 30th, 2003 08:05 pmThere isn't anything that can make you happy that your class actually met for the first week...unless your class is a film class, and the first showing is LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING.
Yeah, it was a happy time for me. I skipped out early to meet the Fantasy and Science Fiction club, and it turns out one of their number is in the class with me. We went back to the class for the lecture afterwards, and then came the moment of truth: would this class continue to rock? Well, the first slide she showed was the cover of Dark Horse Comics' Aliens and Predator title. Imagine how I reacted...
But the good news doesn't stop there. They actually *EXPECT* us to sign up and PLAY PLAYSTATION 2 AND X-BOX!!! You know what that means? In case you don't, allow me to gloat over the syllabus for the films we'll be watching. The films include: X-Men, Spider-Man, The Matrix (WOO!! YES! I FINALLY LIVE OUT MY LIFE-LONG DREAM OF WATCHING AND TALKING ABOUT THE MATRIX ***FOR CREDIT***), and of course LOTR. That means I'll be playing Enter the Matrix, I know it, I know it! I'm gonna go sign up tomorrow! I swear, this is quite possibly the coolest thing I've ever done.
As a sacrifice for getting to take this class, I also have to watch Starship Troopers (can you say VOMIT) and A.I. (which I'd never watch unless forced because it's supposed to be so bad, so I guess that works out). There's actually only one film besides A.I. I haven't seen, some Chinese one, but the course ends with Spirited Away, so, yeah, this rocks my world. Hardcore.
The FAS meeting was a great one, we geeked out talking about Harry Potter and one girl named Kate is a huge Snape fan, runs a website devoted to slash, too, I think. But man, she's in love with Alan Rickman. We gushed over him in Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince of Theives, etc. It was much fun. Turns out she pounced all over the double Matrix/Matrix Reloaded showing in three weeks, saying no one would go see it with her. I didn't admit how many times I'd seen them both, but indicated that the date was already in my planner. Also, I told her that I could quote the first movie and she wants to make a go of it at the showing. heheheheheheheheehehheehehehe....
So, it turns out that FAS meets twice a week here at lunch times, and on Friday, they're going to have a writing seminar for a magazine they put out, so that sounds cool. CHAS--Cosmic Hitchhiker's Appreciation Society--meets tomorrow at 1 pm, and it turns out that Friends of Unnatural Llamas is a Monty Python and beer club. Sounds good to me! I'm going to be converted into a reading geek, too, everyone won't shut up about Terry P...somebody, I'm sure I'll find out who it is.
Well, I'm going out now to Prince Albert's. There's a good chance that the Aussie footy player I exchanged numbers with will be there, but I've already decided to go, if only to sorta shove him at Amy, who's really more interested in him than me. Either way it works out, I won't just let it totally drop like usual, so that's pretty big of me, I think. I can't spend the entire time hoping I never run into the guy, but eh, this way won't have to. Updates on that front forthcoming...
