Reading Newsweek at the laundromat yesterday was one of the most enjoyable times ever. For two specific reasons.

One, it seems that in my red haze of fury while reading The New York Times online about the Bruce Springsteen et al tour, I missed one rather notable name who is campaigning for the other guy. You guessed it, Frank Stallone. No, no, actually, on Bush's side, besides Kid Rock, of course, is none other than the world's second dummest rich blonde who is famous for no good reason (No. 1 with a clear lead is Paris Hilton, but let's not go there today), Jessica Simpson.

That's right. The girl who won our hearts waiting to have sex until she got married (admirable, actually), and now has a reality series devoted to her and husband's flagging careers as pop stars (maybe I'm not hip with this kind of thing, but it seemed to me that his band was basically defunct and none of the videos I've seen her shoot on the show when I've caught it are for songs I've ever heard of). Yes, Jessica Simpson, paragon of virtue, stands behind George W. and bless her for it. She may be actually incredibly shrewd to have made her fortune on her farts and shortcomings, but her public image is firmly on the dim side of idiocy. If the dumbest blonde ever to host a reality show save for one (I'm gonna count Paris-Nicole as one annoying and ugly entity) comes out in support of a candidate, logic dictates that the rest of us should head in the opposite direction of stupid. Yay, logic.

The second reason to be happy with Newsweek: their poll, an 'if the election were held today' type deal, shows Kerry leading Bush with a considerable number of votes. Something 40-ish, with the 10 undecided fairly firmly undecided, and those on the fringe falling out equally between the candidates. Here's hoping Missouri, with a few percentage points leaning to the left, falls that way. Haven't picked a loser in 100 years, apparently. Very ominous.

ACK!

The New York Times needs to put a disclaimer on their front page. I clicked over there and THIS:

stared me back in the face.

WHY, JOHN, WHY? WHY DO YOU LET HIM DO THIS TO YOU? YOU ARE NO BABY AND HE IS NO MOMMA!!!
