Mini-rantage )

End of Rant.

Jon Stewart, COME BACK NEXT YEAR. Dear Lord, he was hilarious. I love him to death anyway, so maybe I'm biased, but he was genuinely wonderful. He didn't let Hollywoodism hold sway nor did he thumb his nose at it like Chris Rock did. The montage bit was cute, though I think his humble smartest-guy-in-the-room schtick was better still. His play with Clooney was to die for. Clooney's gonna be the new Jack Nicolson with his comic timing. I love The Daily Show-style clips sneaking in there, too. Jon, you are the king.

I find it fairly hilarious that the Bushism for the weekend was:

"Will the highways on the Internet become more few?"

and today's was:

"It's important for us to explain to our nation that life is important. It's not only life of babies, but it's life of children living in, you know, the dark dungeons of the Internet."

These two statements were made in the same year, ten months apart in 2000. The first one galled me as he was clearly trying to speak eloquently with the "more few" bit and failed miserably there and at grammar in general. It also pissed me off because of the DoJ's recent activities of bullying search engines so they can prove that children aren't as safe as they should be from porn just to resurrect a failed law in order to censor the Internet. So the government can control the one media outlet where it truly is a public forum. What is this, China?

I'd love to know, though, how he reconciled that first quote with that second (if he or his puppeteers ever did). I wonder what was said after that first quote...

Yet another reason to ::heart:: Jon Stewart!

America: the book--the Calendar! presents: Meet Your Lobbyists!

Hello, my name is: Hollywood (the MPAA)
Represents: Jewish homosexual limousine liberals who hate America
Stated Agenda: Reminding politicians the constitutional guarantee of freedom of expression also protects Sharon Stone beaver shots
Hidden Agenda: A Baldwin in the White House by 2016

Given that Stephen Baldwin is now a crazy God-humping, Bible-thumping, Bush-jumping born-again, that's scarily possible. Also, I love that this was crafted long before Brokeback Mountain went to the Oscars or Jon Stewart was tapped to host. I think we saw a lot of this type of humor last night, a much needed relief from the rest of the aggravations that go with an awards ceremony (three montages to film! THREE!)

Went back to the student dentist again for my free cleaning. This was much less painful than the half job she did a week before the cavity filling. I got another set of free travel-size toothbrush, paste, and floss. All this is of the good.

She found another cavity. This is not of the good.

I told her it was okay to pass my name along to another student if they needed to do the filling. This is of the stupid.

Well, not really. The cavity is a teeny tiny one on the inside of my bottom front teeth. This will be filled with something called a composite restoration instead of an amalgam because the front teeth aren't subject to the same amount of stress as the back molars. Plus, for cosmetic reasons, you know.

I can only pray that no one else needs me at the clinic because the girl who did my other cavity has offered to do this new cavity, too, if none of her other classmates need me for their boards. I'm feeling a little more generous towards her despite the pain I went through two weekends ago because she got a DDS to look at my tooth today before making the call about it. He praised her job on my other filling, so at least I know she did it right.

More updates on the tooth situation to follow. Those of you who caught the full brunt of my frustration at the process last time, feel free to talk me out of this nonsense.
