Horribly bothersome dream that woke me up near to hyperventilating. I dreamt that I was really tired, probably from staying up all night, and I was way downtown and needed to get from 42nd street to work (168th) with only an hour to go. Somehow, I got on the wrong A train, which confused me (in-dream and out) because I was sure it was headed uptown (only to later recall that I'd seen 28th go by before I got out at 14th to turn myself around).

The uptown turnaround was on this subterranean cave that was ugly and looked like it had only been blasted out of solid rock yesterday. I had to cross the tracks to catch a red-lined monorail that was going to take me to an uptown A train. Of course, I missed the monorail connection (a monorail underground being slightly off not penetrating the commuter frustration).

Then there was a shift and I was sharing a cab ride uptown with a girl from my film class. The driver was chit-chatting the whole way, and I sorta woke up to the fact that I'd wasted subway fare and gotten in for a really expensive cab ride which put me in a cranky mood. At some point, seeing marshlands all around us, I demanded we pull over and I took over driving for the cabbie. He was good natured about it and just started to yammer at the other girl in the backseat.

Eventually, I got pulled over for driving erratically and way too fast, and I really started to panic and I just busted out of the car (into which the cab had morphed) and ran crying to this female cop. She laughed when I told her I didn't know where I was (it looked like the kind of marshes you see off the side of the New Jersey Turnpike), and she said I got pulled over at a good time. "Otherwise, you'd be on your way to Devil's Island!"

That's when I woke up to the unfortunate wailings of a pop artist and realized I or a cat had kicked the tuner off my classic rock station. Recounting this dream, it seems like less of a reason to be panicked when I woke up than the choice of radio station would be.
