At long last
Sep. 12th, 2007 12:59 pmFinally, I have enough time at once to wax poetic about Dexter. I've actually held off posting about this show because it is so good that it deserves my full attention. Holy shit, yes. I've got a ton of meta-stuff, too, which is all spoilery, but this is just going to be squee-tacularity. And no spoilers! My hand to God.
First off, this is probably the most beautiful show on television right now. ( It's as jarringly beautiful as Sin City only less ridiculously so. )
Did I fail to mention that Dexter is a serial killer? ( Yeah. )
In terms of acting, this is no Battlestar Galactica. In my mind, BSG is the apex when it comes to acting. It represents the widest range of nuance, the brutest force, the deepest feeling--any standard by which you would judge acting to be good, Battlestar Galactica would pass superlatively. That being said, If BSG is the standard, Michael C. Hall passes it.
( I'm not kidding. )
I don't think that was too meta. I need to do a rewatch of the series before I break it down again into all the bits that make me explode with awesome. Suffice to say, if all the above do not tempt you to try the series out, let me relate to you a little anecdote. For those of you who are friends of
feiran, you know she is far from the rabid TV watcher. She gets a lot through me (inflicted by me, I should say). She came home when I was at the end of the second episode of Dexter and seized on it with such a passion that she actually wanted to watch what she'd missed even after I caught her up. That's outstanding fact No. 1--
feiran hardly ever cares to go back if she's missed something. Outstanding fact No. 2? I rewatched the episodes with her. I hardly ever go back to an episode until I've watched the rest when it's available. And I'd just watched them a few hours before. I still plunked down to rewatch and did nothing else (except possibly drool). Outstanding fact No. 3 is that I actually managed not to watch the last episode without her. Outstanding fact No. 4 is that she called me to be sure we could watch it when she got back and I did from our respective outings on Sunday.
A-fucking-mazing. The second season starts at the end of this month, and some episodes are leaked online. It's too tempting to try them out, but that would only mean a longer wait for new stuff. The weekly waits between new episodes are going to kill me as is. Ah, fall television season! Back to the manic posts every other day! Hurrah!
