Apr. 28th, 2006 12:38 pmI have never played a video game where I was further along than the FAQs. Granted, FAQs do take a long time to write, but still, it's a testament to how far behind the times, video-game-wise I usually am that I can always find at least two or three complete FAQs to help me out in a pinch.
Last night, I was playing Kingdom Hearts II (until 2 in the morning again; I need to stop that), and I decided not to proceed through the irreversible step towards defeating the big bad guy before going back and finishing off the miniquests at the various worlds. Kingdom Hearts II has all the worlds' aspects broken down into categories in Jimminy's Journal, and if you complete all of the possible things in a category--meet all the people with names, find all the treasure chests, etc--you get a Mickey Mouse head for a sort of check mark next to the category completed.
The "missions" category is derived from the "minigames" category. Play a minigame in a world, then you'll get a new mission, mostly to do that game better (faster, more points, survive longer). I was getting really frustrated with one of the cups in the Underworld (Hercules-land) because I had thirty seconds to defeat these two things that you have to try and sidle around to get at their vulnerable spots. I couldn't find a FAQ to make any suggestions as none had been written in any way that was helpful or complete. Ditto for some trouble I had with the Hunny Pot game in the 100 Acre Wood.
It's nuts. I wonder if it's worth the aggravation and likely repeated mutilating, horrible deaths to try and beat Sephiroth when I level up more.

DODGEBALL!!!!!!
Ahem. Just a friendly reminder that that's available Saturday, MAY 6, 2006 (see? I rememered the date this time). I'm going to try and purchase four or five balls for the game, but I really need players most! And, since polling helps me keep track of numbers...
[Poll #718738]
I'm going to try and scope out the place for this, but my first thought is the basketball courts in Riverside Park. They're not usually full, they've already got lines drawn on them for separating the dodgeball court, and, if we get enough of us together, I'm sure we can commandeer one, no problem. I just need to go by there and make sure exactly where they are (I think they're around 114th). But please suggest alternate places to go, especially in case said courts are busy that day.

Date: 2006-04-29 03:17 pm (UTC)For the Hunny Pot game, just max your power and get your angle as straight as possible. Repeat until you do it nearly perfectly, and getting power as high as possible has more effect than getting angle as straight as possible.
I hear using Magnera is fantastic for points in some of the cups, but I haven't tried it yet.

Date: 2006-04-29 06:34 pm (UTC)I beat the 100 Acre Wood games! I still have to beat all the Twilight Town stuff, which will be next to impossible to do. I am debating not bothering with it and going through the portal to the end.
Is it going to be worth it, the aggravation? Also, Sephiroth? WTF?

Date: 2006-04-30 12:40 am (UTC)I'd like to get 100% because I'm like that. I took out Sephiroth a few days ago...he's very hard, but with some strategy, he's less hard. Level up enough, and he won't hurt you enough to be a huge threat.
The two hardest things in Twilight Town are the junk clear and the poster duty. Most of the jobs become much easier with Fenrir, the weapon you can get after being Sephiroth. Poster duty will make you want to tear your hair out. =)
