Don't give Whedon all the credit...

Because I firmly believe that Nathan Fillion is responsible for some of the more interesting line-reads in Firefly/Serenity. [livejournal.com profile] darkling1, [livejournal.com profile] feiran, and I watched Slither last night, and man, that movie is disgusting but also hilarious. Really, I'm not sure I could watch it twice for the squick-factor (and I'm someone who routinely digests--no pun intended--zombie movies as part of her movie diet) because it really is that gross, but I kind of have to see it again some time just to catch all the goofiness. They make saying "shit" and "fuck" into high comedy. Line delivery iskey, and I think that Slither got that across pretty well.

But goddamn was it sickeningly gross. It doesn't help that it taps all the psychological fears--infection, monstrous birth, zombification--that already make me squirm. Add to that Michael Rooker (AH!!! SOOO CREEPY!!!) and a bunch of slimy slugs, and ::shudder::. I'm laughing and throwing up at the same time.

Slither was just a laugh riot. Sure it stole 65% of the plot from Night of the Creeps, but still they weren't trying to scare you as make you bust out laughing. With lines like "Could you pass me that piece of meat over there..." being said by the human balloon, how could you not bust out laughing. Oh and the bathtub scene......... ROFLMAO.

Ok if you have a fear of snakes, slugs, and other things that move around without legs I can see how this movie might not be so fun. Esp with a couple hundred of those things crawling over a few of the characters. Did you catch some of the deleted scenes? Oh man I fell over laughing with the "filing system".

I don't have a problem with snakes. Slimey things, yes, snakeys no. But the mind-controlling, mouth-invading, you-impregnating slugs? EEEEEEEEEE! That makes me want to puke, yes.

And this is why I've never watched Night of the Creeps either. No, no and no.

We did watch some of the extras, but not deleted scenes. Maybe--and this is by no means likely--MAYBE another time.

No worries on the deleted scenes. Most of them just make the movie camp-ee-er ^_^ Like the first appearance of "the deer" and the "filing system".

One thing you have to admit though, tactical hive minded spitting zombie action was funny.......... LOL ^_^

It's just not fair. It's like the zombie-werewolf-vampire problem: you can't beat all three in one being. Werewolves regenerate, vampires can think, zombies want to eat you alive. This movie was basically Aliens on Earth with grosser stuff and zombies. Not fair!

I wanted to buy that but I'm broke. I saw it in theaters though.

You can read the writer/director James Gunn's blog at http://www.myspace.com/slithermovie

Heh, I might just go give that a read. I wish I'd gotten to see it in theaters, but there wasn't time and it was in and out again in a flash, alas.
