Igby Goes Down is an incredible movie. It's smart and sassy, and it actually makes the annoying little shit of a Culkin brother's character somewhat likeable, even though he's about as infuriating as his mother in the film is to him.
Susan Sarandon is cracker-jack as the wicked witch mother, Mimi, and Ryan Phillippe is redeemable as an utterly loathable older brother, Oliver, who seems to be loved by Igby despite having hurt his little brother repeatedly.
Mimi: You are a terrible brother.
Oliver: And yet, you're the one he hates.
That, and:
Igby: Oliver is majoring in neo-fascism at Columbia.
Oliver: Economics.
Igby: Semantics.
