Most Disturbing Thing Ever

So I was reading a gag-ish type gift book I got a whiles back called Duh! The Stupid History of the Human Race and one chapter dealt with stupid ways to die. It's not funny if it's you, that's what the book admits, but this one wasn't even funny and I wasn't even alive at the time it happened that it could possibly affect me directly.

Check out this girl's story.

Seriously, I had to google that before I would believe this book was telling the truth. I mean, just 'cause he researched it doesn't mean it was really true-true, right? A lot of it reads like urban legends: a compendium, but, uh, wow.

And I went to the same school she did in pre-K! Yes, it's a school for girls--it's coed until kindergarten. On a check of my high school and its Cleveland prep school rivals, Laurel had the crazies, U.S. (all boys) had the athletes, and Hawken (my school) had the real achievers, including Arthur Laffer '55.

Agree with you that it's not really stupid or funny--intentional suicides almost never are.

Yeah, that's true, but some are--like the French guy who figured out six different ways to kill himself as he fell off a cliff only to have the bullet break the rope, the water induce vomiting and purging of the poison and the fall being broken only to die a few days later. That's kinda funny, in an awful way. Once you go to that level, ayah...

But this lady? No one was stopping her, she editorialized (demonized, really) the place she was doing it in as being the sort of place that would happily broadcast this if it knew it was coming, she went through the trouble to find the surest route to be dead, predicted how long her death would take and wrote out her own death news story. That's sick, and not at all funny.
