...in fifty words or less and no spoilers!

Christopher Eccleston needs to make babies with me. There were no guys like Zach at my high school. Sylar is still credibly scary. He is evil, but I ::heart:: Mr. Bennet. Hiro (tonight, anyway) and Niki exist to waste my time. Congratulations, Nathan: you are more of a fuck-up than Peter.

Bweee. Thanks for no-spoilers. I am currently on episode 11 of this series and very much looking forward to joining the live audience.

Did you notice the License Plate on Dad's car? "NCC 1701!!!"

That last one was a direct thought I had while watching the ep, and it was vague enough, I just filled in the rest.

Catch up! So much fun! It's my weekly comic book run, only it's free!

Not a Trekker, sorry. If he'd had the bumper sticker with "My other car is the Millenium Falcon" I would have been right there with you.

But it seems that geek politics prevent one from liking Star Trek if you like Star Wars. I thought it might be that, though, immediately after I sent that :)

Ah Gotcha. But seeing how Dad was, do you think he WOULD have a bumper sticker on any of his cars?

I must say though, that I like both of them. Just that I noticed and was wondering if anyone else saw that.

I like a few of the Trek movies okay, ubt mostly because they are actually good movies versus just being Trek movies. If not for the fact I was subjected to it many times as a kid (not to mention the ick-factor), Wrath of Khan would be on that list. Otherwise, I like 4, 6, and First Contact (the last being sort of a zombie movie in space, which works with me).

And, no, Mr. Bennet doesn't seem the type for a bumper sticker. He doesn't seem like a Trek fan either, but maybe it's part of his cover. Or maybe nerds really will become badasses and take over the world.

LOVED Wrath of Khan. The ick-factor was why I liked the flick.

I was more a fan of the classic stuff myself. Not so much the new Picard guys. Also, not a "rabid" fan who knows eps by heart. I just like the storytelling and such.

I think it's part of his cover. The whole family thing doesn't seem to suit him at all. You know, being all government agency-ish and such? You just KNOW that taking care of Claire was a tough call, and now she's a BIG weakness for him.

I liked some eps I saw okay, but I can't recall many I loved to blue-blazes. I think the only one I loved was the DS9 one where they went back in time and visited the tribble episode of the original series. That was awesome, and not just because the one chick banged McCoy, which was always what I wanted to do.

I think the family thing works on Bennet, and that's why they're a liability. There was real love in the way he shot fucking first and asked questions second when he saw Sylar hovering over his wife. They're really cute together, honestly (when the fake "bio-parents" came to the house, they were each adorable and fairly real for a couple reacting that that stress).

And he really does love Claire (not so much his biological son, who is where these days?), and I don't think he would have taken her in himself if at least some of what he told Papa Suresh wasn't true (the story he gave about his wife and he trying to have kids and having no luck etc broke my damn heart). So I think his family life is legit. The Star Trek thing is just an easy way for the show to go "OMG HE IS A NERD" in case we didn't get that from the retro-geek glasses or his inability to not be a doofus about his daughter growing up.

Since you brought up Mr. Bennet and his gun, one has to wonder if Mr Bennet is sporting a power. Reason, give how hard and fast Sylar was knocked back by the force of the bullet one has to wonder just how high a caliber that bullet really was. Note the smash pattern behind Sylar when he hit the furniture behind him. The pistol was a medium size one, but it didn't kick like it had that much energy..... at least from how Bennet's arm reacted.

I wouldn't try to apply logical physics here, but it's a thought. I dunno, though. If Bennet had any kind of power, he'd have used it better to keep Sylar imprisoned. Sylar seems to know when people have powers (he doesn't have all the data Suresh's dad had, so he doesn't know the list), so I think he'd have noticed, too.

I'm not so sure about that. There has been a few folks now that surprised Sylar in that they have abilities. Case in point Sarah Ellis went undiscovered by Sylar till after she used his powers on him. It's quite possible that Mr. Bennet himself has always had a power, and that was the original driving force behind him looking for metahumans. Also his not using that ability may be the result of conditioning so that he would not be discovered. It also could be that he has a less than obvious power (ie kinetic amplification).

Gotta call you on that one--you're wrong. When she goes into the room to tell Sylar to kill himself, he knew who she was. Not only did he know her from her being the girl-next-door (his words, about her being Chandra Suresh's neighbor), but he knew what her power was ("That wonderful ability of yours"). He just hadn't made a move to kill her yet at that point.

As for Bennet, possibly his being shadowed by the Haitian is what protected him from being detected, but I doubt it. I have a feeling that Bennet is human, and that's good because it explains why the need to catalogue and cart off some of the supers is so important (as a normal person, he's got every right to worry about what people do with their abilities, plus he's seen it before with Claude's generation of supers).

Kinetic amplification? Meaning when he runs really fast he projects outwards on the air, kinda like Cannonball? Then why did Sylar only go backwards with bullets? If he were working on the bullets themselves with a kind of power, then there would be a mass/force issue (air would be more massive if more of it were moved than just one small bullet). Also, Sylar did not look surprised by the use of force, suggesting that it's probably some backlash of his own telekinesis acting against the gun shots to protect himself than anything Bennet did.

....previously from arcane...
<calls you on your call>

Sylar clearly didn't know she had powers even though she was the next door neighbor. He sensed no power from her. He recognized her after he had been captured (thanks to her use of her power). The reference you made was the one where Sylar made towards Sara after she had used her power to capture him in the woods (and hence gave Sylar the knowledge of what her ability was).

...continued....
Also you would have to wonder about something else. If Sylar could sense that she had an ability then why didn't he get her in NYC? For that matter why would Sylar make the mistake of killing the wrong cheerleader? Sylar has a copy of the list and the names of people are what he uses to target those with abilities. If you aren't on the list then chances are Sylar won't be able to find you (assuming you don't cross paths with him accidentally while using your power). Hiro is also the proof case of this. Why would Sylar leave the diner when he could have also taken Hiro too?

Kinetic amplification is what the power is called. Usually it's just the ability to increase the inertial value of a moving object (usually by messing around with the expression of mass without changing the velocity). Sylar throwing up a last second telekenetic shield would have prevented it from piercing the body, but the energy translated from the round would have sent Sylar flying. Since there wasn't any blood from Sylar at the scene it's likely that the shield was used to protect him from the bullet. The question then becomes whether it was a high caliber round (in which why didn't it kick back like a mule), the expression of a kinetic amplification ability, or oversight by the production staff not realizing the significance of the special effects of the scene.
