Hot Fuzz was such good fun. It's sacrilege to say, perhaps, but it was definitely funnier than Shaun of the Dead. The parodies of the buddy-cop and action movie staples were spot-on because they were lovingly done with real admiration for what came before. Just, you know, amped up to ridiculousness. Shaun of the Dead was as much a dry commentary on modern society, interpersonal relationships, and drop-out syndromes as a riff on the zombie movie. I like it better, I do think, just that Hot Fuzz was funnier. Definitely worth your time at the cinema.

It also upholds my theory that there really are only so many British people allowed to wander around on celluloid 'cause there was hardly a person in that movie you hadn't already seen in every other thing having a British person in it. Some of them are just older.

For another thing, it's actually quite lovely to see movies in the middle of the week. I just rucked up to the theater, bought a ticket in record time (no pre-order necessary!) because there were no lines, and we got perfect seats even though we sat down only fifteen minutes before the previews. Best of all, you miss most of the obnoxious pre-previews ad campaigns and "entertainment" segments narrated at you by a failed actor who is but one more taped segment attempting to be hip and pithy from filming himself blowing his brains out and shoving that reel on instead. No thanks.

Would be better if such mid-week venues could be cheaper, 'cause then I'd do it every week. But if there are ones I want to see in theaters but don't need to see opening weekend (like the Fantastic Four sequel--how's about we do that one in the middle of the week, [livejournal.com profile] ivy03?) or that I would be ashamed to have anyone else know I'd gone to see and would like to minimize my chances of being spotted in a less crowded theater (::coughcough::Transformers::cough::), I would definitely go on non-weekend nights.

I thought Hot Fuzz was hysterical, and thought it was much funnier than Shawn of the Dead. Shawn, OTOH, had a real lead character (one who most men could identify with); the hero of Fuzz was less than one-dimensional. Still loads of fun, though.

I am up for mid-week movies, provided they're on a night I can make. :)

But it's going to rape my childhood memories! Optimus Prime WITH FLAME DECALS. Bumblebee IS A CHEVY. God help me, if Megatron isn't a giant fucking GUN, I AM GOING TO TRANSFORM INTO A KILLBOT ME!

Awesome! We can also then totally use the tickets Lisa gets from work and what not.

It is......... if you can get out to queens before 6pm. Weekday showings at the local theater by me go for about $7.50 so long as the showing is before 6pm. First show of the day on Saturdays. It's kind of fun to catch an early show and then head over and catch brunch at one of the many food gems near by ^_^ See what you miss out by not venturing out of city much (Astoria doesn't count).

Yeah, I agree with whoever with the top hat icon who said that Shaun is, in essence, more down-to-earth. Hot Fuzz is so outlandish, and that's what makes Shaun better, is that it is a more genuine story (despite zombies) than the earth-shatteringly, brain-rattlingly, ball-crackingly loud Hot Fuzz. I did like Fuzz though.

What I want to see theaters do is give you a discount (perhaps only during the week) when you see two different movies. If I could, say, go see two movies back to back on a Tuesday for $10, I would be at the theater way more often, and theaters can't really claim they're losing money because the alternative is staying at home and watching something on DVD, not just seeing one movie.

Also, people have suggested that From Dusk Till Shaun should be done as an alternate-universe comic book, but I hold out hope for Hot Felt in which Nicholas Angel pursues his dream of becoming a Muppet with the same hard-boiled, no-nonsense intensity that he brings to his police work.

Die Hard > Transformers

No matter how many Mac ad personalities they put into it.

Those are two awesome sequel titles. They rival "Seriously, Dude Where's My Car?" and that is saying something.

That back-to-back thing is interesting. They have that upstate at a--get this--drive-in theater I've been to. Two movies for about $10. Clearly, they rape you on concessions, and they don't have to do squat to make you comfortable seating-wise, but that's the alternative to not going to the movies at all or spending that much to go to one? It works.

Fucking smug Mac guy. Really, I like that actor okay in stuff, but the PC guy is much more endearing. It makes me want to buy a PC--to give a hug to the PC guy as much as to spite the Mac guy.

I am pretty sure they made up From Dusk Till Shaun, but Hot Felt is my joke.

There is a drive-in near me, and the fee is $7, but I am forced to wait until they have a good set of movies to play together, which is why I'd like it at a normal theater so I can see whatever I want to.

I saw Grindhouse at the drive-in.

Wow, Grindhouse is the PERFECT film for a drive-in. Awesome, awesome, awesome.
