It's not that I don't like The Darkness getting some attention (who loves her some Jackie E? Trinity does!), since it looks like there's never gonna be a movie made (check out the date on that article--a year and a half now! Although if this is how they're going to go, maybe it's best the movie died a quiet death). Goodness knows I think more Jackie is always better than less (which is why the new, post-Hell run of The Darkness kinda sucked cock; because Jackie wasn't Jackie any more; also, the Darklings weren't funny).
It's just that I don't think The Darkness translates well for video gaming purposes. I can't really say why. It's not like Grand Theft Auto hasn't made billions out of a criminal protagonist. And there are plenty of supernaturally/otherworldly/mutated heroes who've got games. It's more I see the potential to ruin the really great ludicrously pretty, substantiatively shallow story, I guess. I dunno.
The wiki summary makes it sound like Jackie is Top Cow's answer to Venom. "Summoning Dark Tenacles" out of his back? Bah? Perhaps my resistance to this lies in the fact that The Darkness works best as still pictures. The imagery could be atrocious (or worse: silly) when animated...
