...some vaguely Mannequin-related trivia!

Did you know...

...that Andrew McCarthy is not, in fact, eating out of dumpsters these days; has even had a job in TV in the past decade; and he's going to be in The Spiderwick Chronicles?

...THAT ESTELLE GETTY IS STILL ALIVE!?! Holy balls, that woman isn't as old as she seems. Good for her!

...that the sequel to Mannequin--Mannequin 2: On the Move--starred Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Herman of Herman's Head? I am disturbed at how often former players from Herman's Head show up in stuff ("often" meaning "ever"). What a truly awful show that was. I would like to believe that the only reason Hank Azaria and Yeardley Smith were on there was to be able to survive while The Simpsons cast was still getting dick pay.

...that Doug Liman (of Bourne movie and Mr. and Mrs. Smith fame) directed a little-known film starring Andrew McCarthy as a slimy git (and, coincidentally, Kristy Swanson! Mannequin stardom clearly leaves your career in a circular wreck of bad movies). Want a bigger suprise? I've actually seen it! It had a pre-Ally Calista Flockhart, and--hilariously--a young Dave Chapelle as a severe agoraphobe. His reason for never leaving his subterrainean computer lab? A BODY FELL ON HIM ONCE. I'm sorry, I find that to goddamned funny.

This has been your movie trivia from me, the human IMDB.
(Oh, okay, fine, I supplemented with some help from the real IMDB. But not much!)

Heh. I was astonished to see McCarthy on Monk a few years ago. Aside from Mannequin, I remember him best from that episode of Tales from the Crypt, which I recently realized was basically ripped off from an old Twilight Zone episode.

Estelle Getty isn't dead, but I think she has Alzheimer's, which I think is even worse.

I always remember Andy McCarthy in Heaven Help Us, his first big role, which liked a lot. "Vibis vibuscum, shithead" is forever inscribed in my memory. Too bad all his other movies sucked.

Yay for Andrew McCarthy's many useless roles!

As for Estelle Getty: Poor dear! I loved her best whenever I would catch an episode of Golden Girls. It amuses me to no end that she was the mother but youngest of any of them.

but, but, but.....

You're a freak.

I'm sorry, normally I can be more joke-y about that or at least say, "Hey, I can't talk, I watch Smallville." But really, no, you're just a sad person for liking that show. I used to watch it every so often when it was on and it was pretty universally terrible.

Sorry, but ugh.

Awww, balls! I thought THIS one was the one with Kristy Swanson. Now I'm definitely not coming to it. :P

I watched Herman's Head, but I can't remember whether or not I liked it. I think I was still young enough to not CARE whether or not I liked tv to watch it.

HAH AHA!!! You like the sequel better?

Do you know that I rented it because the movie book my mom has said it was better than the first (which rated it "turkey")? SO BAD.

Yep, me too.

There was like ONE joke I remembered, and it was the fat guy (Lust, I think) making up euphemisms for boobs and crossing them off whenever the chick in his head got pissy. Then they met someone from Yonkers and he flipped out because it was a great euphemism.

That's all I can REMEMBER. And it's not funny.

Wait a sec, if you can barely remember what you did see then how can you say that it was all that terrible hmmmmm.......? Selective memory, that's what I say =-รพ

I suppose that not everyone enjoys seeing vain attempts to boiling down complex human impulses down to four personality vectors, but to me that's really funny (esp the path ways by which conflict between those vectors was resolved).

Shut up, the sequel was awesome. I'm not 100% sure I've seen the first, now, because the one I remember has Kristy Swanson.

I do believe that Estelle Getty was actually the youngest of the Golden Girls.

Two notes:

Note 1: My first play started out pretty much like Herman's Head. It's still sort of like Herman's Head. Tragic.

Note 2: My grandma was friends with Estelle Getty. They were neighbors in Queens.

OMG, I am totally screening both of these with drinking...the theater had "technical difficulties" and they never showed it!

I did know that, actually. I always found that hi-larious. She played the part, god bless her. It must not have been easy playing behind Bea Arthur...

The idea of corporeal bits of psyche doesn't bother me. That show bothered me. It was metaphysical personification as sitcom. Gag.

And aw! G-ma Earthrise and Sophia BFF!

I know! Friggin' adorable, right?

(Grandma and Estelle, not metaphysical personificational gagging.)
