And that's all I have to talk about really

I can't believe that on a show where one of the stars has the weirdest duck-tail haircut, the thing that bothers me most is not knowing where on Earth he got a cast from. So, Supernatural fans, how did Sam get a cast, and why, after several months, does he still have one? (Warning: I'm only halfway through season two, so references to events later probably won't make sense to me.)

I feel pretty good about catching up on TV, but I'm still so far behind it's ridiculous. I mean, LOST is over and I've not seen half the episodes (or more). Ditto Torchwood. Sooooo far behind on Doctor Who that I'm at risk for spoiling whenever I turn on BSG on Fridays because the American broadcast is ahead of me. SHAMEFUL.

And all of those are going to continue to be neglected as I should have not one but two discs of Tales from the Crypt coming to me from Netflix today. Damn EC Comics reprints being so expensive! I shall have to watch the wonderfully gruesome horror on the tele-vision-machine!

Holy crap, I know this one!

"When actor Jared Padalecki injured his wrist in a stunt on an episode of Supernatural, his character was tackled in the next episode, explaining the presence of a cast for the next four episodes."

Yes, he broke his wrist in real life, so there's a line in the zombie episode at the end where Sam says "I think she hurt my arm." He had to film most of that episode without the cast for continuity reasons, which is why you see him reach across to open the Impala door with his uninjured hand, even though in the show continuity he hasn't been hurt yet.

Sam keeps the cast as long as Jared has to, which means that in show terms, it's the slowest healing bone ever.

Also, I heard nothing about him breaking it in a stunt. I'd heard bar fight, but you never know.

Bar fight? I wonder if someone decided to talk to him the way that Dean talks to Sam. LOL.

Jared and Jensen did get into a bar fight together sometime early in filming--them versus of bunch of guys. That I know happened, but I don't think they were injured.

Sheesh! Bar fights killed Marcus Belby! (http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Robert_Knox) PEOPLE NEED TO BE MORE CAREFUL.

Which is the "zombie" episode? The one with the dead girl brought back to life? Because I'd swear it was around for even longer...

Yes, that episode, and no, that's the first one where he has a cast.

Maybe that was longer ago than I realized. No big, just I caught onto it about two episodes ago and I'm sitting there wondering if this was because of that crash or what. Okey-doke, now I know.

Also, I love the Michael Shanks one. That's the writers giving up. Shanks has appendicitis? Okay, uh...so does Daniel.

What's wrong with that? I'm sure they turned it to dramatic potential liek woah, right?

Re: Holy crap, I know this one!

[identity profile] ivy03.livejournal.com 2008-06-03 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No, actually. Just one scene to explain why he isn't around. It was the season ender, and they'd written this huge thing with the Replicators, so they were apparently up all night figuring out what to do with Daniel. In the end, he's just in a hospital on earth and misses everything. The one scene he's in is even unscripted.

Yes, [livejournal.com profile] chuckro's link pointed that out. Very funny.

Huh. Seems like it's been longer than four episodes. It's bugging me a while now. Or maybe I just noticed it out of nowhere and it seems like it's been there longer.

Well, all the same, thanks!

Jared does eventually get a haircut. I think his hair sucks early season two, though trakkie does not agree with me.

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2008-06-03 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't look at him without giggling, his hair is bad so often. It's ruined many a "dramatic cut to Sam's reaction" moment.

Hee, this is like when Det. Lassiter's actor broke his collarbone during filming - he had a cast for FOREVER in tv time, too, and they explained it in the show with a one-off line. It's really obvious when it's a real injury that they've had to write around.

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2008-06-03 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Lassie! I need to finish that series.

I'm out on LI today (baking cookies for Invalid Mom), but was inspired to pull the Showcase Presents: House of Mystery off the shelf. Took me until I re-read this entry to realize why I did that.

(The Showcase volumes are fantastic if you like Silver Age comics. $17, 500 pages, black-and-white reprints of dozens of books.)

Hee, I am glad I inspired nostalgia! Seriously, I've been watching Tales from the Crypt and I've been laughing so hard at everything (while still being grossed out a lot!) that I am tempted to at least pull out of the library (if they have it) the reprints of Shock SuspenStories et al. Man, people thought this was bad for you?
