Someone took teeth out of my head!
I'm writing this about half an hour after leaving the dentist's office. I still feel pretty lucid, but only just lucid enough to know I'm slightly out of it. My mother said that I have asked her the same question four times on the way home. I don't remember getting out of the chair to where she was next to me when I woke up.
So, basically, I went in and the dentist, who was really fabulous (in both the literal and the snap-snap girlfriend! way, though he mentioned wife and kids--my mom agreed). I told him that basically I didn't want to take out all four teeth, especially not if it meant I'd be sort of forced to go for the general because it was a bigger procedure than the two I wanted out. I also didn't want to because it basically meant for sure I couldn't go back to work tomorrow. However, it meant that I would almost assuredly be back for the other side in the future. To avoid the hassle of a return trip, I agreed.
They gave me gas to make me loopy--it worked--before giving the general, and that was as weird as anything else. It was this tube with a hole in the center they applied over my nose. My mother, of course, took a picture or four, and the two assistants and the oral surgeon both posed in the picture. Looked like something out of a sci-fi movie. And I really cannot remember passing out. They put something in my arm, then one of the assistants tried to put in some sort of mouth gard, but I was having too much trouble fitting it in without pain (my jaw was locking up. The last thing I remember was her slipping it in partially the wrong way just to have it in my mouth. Then I was out.
I woke up in another room with my mother, rather exhausted, still ready to stay under and sleep, cheeks full of gauze and puffy. I was told I was walked to the room to recover. Bit weird, really. I was only out a bit, seeing as I was home again an hour and a half after I went in to the room to start the procedure. Now I'm trying to figure out why certain things are numb and others aren't...my lip is numb on one side, but only the bottom, cheeks are pretty numb...why would they give my something there? Didn't I get just the general?
Eh? Is it time for ice again? Eh?

I forget how the nerves go, but possibly blocking the nerves to your wisdom teeth might also have blocked stuff in cheeks and such.

Your life will suck greatly for at least the next few days, possibly longer.

They put a tray of icecream and jelly in front of me, and I'm like "you've got to be fucking kidding, i can't even drink water and you're giving me JELLY?!" o_O
*hugs* hope its not too painful. (and can you go back to work even after the general?)
