Where does the quote end and the joke begin

I understand that this clip isn't as funny as the Palin-Clinton sketch, but watch it. Watch all the way through the really, really awkward parts.

Now, a lot of that was excruciating. Because half of it was directly quoted from the Couric interview.

Look, the bailout thing? I get it. It's complicated. We're not sure what the right step is, even as we move quickly to do what we hope will fix it all. However, the least I ask of the people who want to be put in charge of things is that someone types them up a cheat-sheet in near-grammatical English, not LOLcat. No, really. I don't care if she just said, "I think the bailout should happen because rich people should never have to pay for being fiscally irresponsible." At least that would be with the ENGLISH-making.

I actually liked this better than the earlier sketch.

And yeah, as we were watching it, I said to Chris "I think that bit is verbatim from the interview". Or, as some blogger put it, it wasn't a parody so much as a reenactment.

It's truly sad (and terrifying) that there is no greater farce about this than the truth itself.

So, how many pitchers of margarita do you anticipate needing to get through the VP debate?

Dude, we've still got one of those frozen mixer cans in the freezer! We'll have to make sure we have enough tequila for Thursday, but it doesn't take that much.

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Depending on the ratio of mix to tequila, anywhere from eighty to a hundred. Because holy shit, if this cow gets up there and starts babbling like that transcript, I swear I'm going to drink myself into the hospital.

The one good thing that has happened in all this mess is that I've become reasonably politically aware thanks to my inability to stop gawking at this trainwreck.

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what it is, too. I cannot figure out, however, how something can be bodies-on-the-ground, massive-destruction-all-around bad and people are still undecided whom to vote for. gah.

I am still terrified to find out who my mom's voting for. I really do not know how I could reconcile the idea of my mother as a reasonable and decent human being with the idea that she might still vote for McCain after all this.

[identity profile] umeyard.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so there with you!
I was feeling very uneducated about this election but between Palin and trying to find out if McCain can tell the truth I found myself the other night reading Michelle Obama's thesis

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow...what was her thesis about?

[identity profile] umeyard.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually it was really good regarding being a young black female at Princeton and how if at all attending a predominantly white University changes their goals and what they want to achieve between admission and graduation "Princeton-educated blacks and the Black Community"

I was hearing this from the boyfriend:

And this has the links to the full Thesis

No, no, you need to stay semi-conscious so you can watch Biden pwn her! The visceral thrill of justified smackdown!

(Also, alcohol poisoning is bad.)

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It will be very hard to resist the sweet, buffering temptation of booze, though. Perhaps I will start out with the two tea-lemonade blends left from this weekend. After two of those, I probably won't want any more booze.

[identity profile] chuckro.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry! They seemed like they'd be a good idea. Tea-lemonade half-and-half is delicious as a nonalcoholic beverage. Now I know, hard lemonade must be kept pure.

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, don't get me wrong. I actually like them. I just don't like them after I've finished swallowing. But it's good enough on the taste that I can get past that. Alcohol always tastes like crap on the swallow unless it's drowned in sugar (like maragarita mix).

[identity profile] umeyard.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
The actual video is going to give me nightmares.

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It already has. I watched it and I went to bed last night and had a nightmare. It was unrelated to Sarah Palin, but I still blame her.

[identity profile] umeyard.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I could not fall asleep till about 3. My dad made the comment the other day about how he thinks that Sarah Palin is "One smart sharp lady" and he actually likes her. I forgive him since he is drugged out of his mind after eye surgery :)

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I had that excuse for my father. He thinks she's got more leader-ly experience than Biden and Obama put together. I think he needs his head examined. Then again, this was before any of her interviews where she comes off as Elle Woods minus charm and intelligence.

[identity profile] umeyard.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. Just got into it with my old boss form work. He firmly believes that half the ding bat things she is caught saying are people splicing the video to make her look bad because people can't handle a smart AND pretty woman ....

I think I am going to go vomit.

[identity profile] droidguy1119.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It was reported last week that Palin thought the first Fey/Poehler sketch was greatly amusing.

This week it was discovered that she watched it without sound.

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand her not watching it--it's not always easy to sit through what amounts to a roast of you that doesn't at least hew to the pretense that the people giving it respect you. But saying you watched it and thought it was great and then didn't listen to it is just stupid.

(Anonymous) 2008-09-30 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
You are overestimating my faith in her. I have no doubt she found it amusing. She found it amusing to watch someone dress up like her on TV.
