Because the New York Times likes its conservatives idiotic, vacuous, or both. :)

I'm hard-pressed to know anyone who likes him. He just has power in conservative cycles, and they can't get rid of him.

He's right about one thing though; don't count your realignments until you've had a good twenty years in power. (And then don't count on having it for much longer...)

Oh, I wasn't talking about realignments. I was talking about how he thinks that Obama promising his kids a dog is clearly some master strategy to make people like him better. Or how Obama, elected overwhelmingly by progressive-friendly voters, ought to be entirely centrist. (Which, in Kristol-land, translates to right, right-of-center.)
