I nearly exploded last night. Instead, I sequestered myself until I could at least milk some humor out of a rant I then forced upon [livejournal.com profile] feiran and [livejournal.com profile] darkling1. Good decision. I watched me some Keith Olbermann, calmed down a bit. He said, verbatim, that the President was full of crap. Love you, Keith!

And then [livejournal.com profile] feiran and I watched Stardust which was thoroughly charming. Certainly better than the last Gaiman-related film I saw. We both enjoyed it loads, laughing a good deal and being just out-and-out charmed. [livejournal.com profile] feiran was, at once, ridiculous and cute over the character of Cpt. Shakespeare--she didn't recognize ROBERT DE NIRO, but she did squeal and call him a "drag queen sky pirate!" Forgiven, I suppose. Except, not, because when I then pointed out that the joy should be from Robert De Niro playing against type and she hadn't seen any of his character-actor movies, I tried to figure out where she'd have known him from. And she didn't even know him from his comedic renaissance films. (I said Meet the Parents and all I got was a very telling pause.)

But, yes, Stardust, ridiculously charming. I keep using that word because that's all I can really say. It's just sweet and light and, yes, predictable as hell, but that's pretty much the point. A bit busy, some times directionless, but fun. Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] feiran is still ready to muff dive Michelle Pfeiffer at her earliest convenience. I confess, I wouldn't say no either.

Oh, I loved Stardust, and of course Robert De Niro prancing around; I was even able to overlook Claire Danes' questionable accent :-P All the princes trying to kill each other - utterly charming! :-P

You should watch Brazil for another entertaining DeNiro performance.

Welcome to my world?

The deaths were played for humor, and the ghosts mucking about were pretty hilarious. I rather enjoyed how heartlessly murder amongst princes was conducted.

And yes, accents were patchier than Michelle Pfeiffer's balding wig, but still, fun!

Not quite the same level of entertaining, or so I hear.

Except you don't get to be a lesbian to do it!

And a voice in my head starts singing, "Anything you and do, I can do gayer. I can do anything gayer than you..."

Hey now, I like Mirror Mask =-รพ Doh, that reminds me.... I need to find another copy of Neverwhere (as my copy is currently MIA).

Mirror Mask had design going for it and not really anything else. Now, that's not to say that's not enough, just that it's not enough to really warrant a rewatch or loving it or anything. I'm all for design porn, but if that's going to be the case, I would prefer there to be something worth while to hang the design porn on.

I love that movie, and especially Robert de Niro playing the opposite of his usual type XD

Clare Danes was just beautiful in the movie too. :3

I didn't like her hair or her eyebrows not matching up quite, but she did look rather pretty. I wish the silvery dress had lasted longer alas, it was more distinctive and ethereal than anything else she ended up in.

Why does it seem like you're taking this worse than I am?

Because I'm a drama queen and you're not?

No, I can't possibly lay claim on taking it worse than anyone who's actually being laid off. If I am, that means I'm a giant baby/attention whore. Which, ew. It just happens that you got your news at the same time as I heard about some family members--neither of whom is doing a really good job of hiding how they're not holding it together. Makes me really nervous.

Also, yesterday, I was just in a FOUL mood. So, ignore me.

It's been years--YEARS!--since she claimed spot #1 on my lesbian list, and she still hasn't been dethroned.

...actually, she kind of *is* my lesbian list, full stop. She is just so amazingly hot.

And she does this flirtatious camera-wink in the movie. Hurrrr.

De Niro is awesome in Brazil. Comedically awesome. I haven't seen Stardust, but he is definitely awesome. Brazil is definitely not all hilarious, so maybe you heard more about the tone of the whole movie, but he's definitely the anarchic comedic character of the film.

I thought MirrorMask was really great, although not entirely original.
