So he's moved his act to the US! The Obamas are in a hotel because Johnny Howard gets the Blair House. Oh, well, okay, I guess first-come, first-serve, right? Can't be bitter just 'cause Howard is a douche.

Except that he wasn't scheduled for the one night he will be at the Blair House at the time the Obamas requested an early move-in so they could a) live near where their daughters are going to school, and b) go to that little inauguration thing.

I'm through being fair. The Bush Administration has all the right in the world to be gigantic assfaces and host one of their stable of misguided cock-suckers and throw over "the enemy" (which is, apparently, family unity and support for the First Daughters). But I've got the right to call them taint-sniffing shitlickers, too. Which I have done. So there.

And again, I get the image of Bush committing acts of petty vandalism in his last few nights in the White House. Obama will be finding dead fish in the closets and cellophane on the toilets.

It's like the bullies have been stripped of power and now they have nothing but stupid, mean shit to do with their time. Ugh, they have always been this petty and vindictive, they just got away with it because they had the power at the time.

Well... they weren't always this petty and vindictive... they were far more powerful, and accordingly more petty and vindictive.

Think of this like the Scourging of the Shire, only there's really no way to know if Obama's presence is going to make anything better afterward.

Blair House is the guest house of the President of the United States, traditionally used to house visiting dignitaries. It's part of diplomacy.

It is entirely appropriate that a domestic guest would get booted for a foreign one, especially a former head of state or head of government. An elementary courtesy to foreign nations, that is.

I look at this from a cost-benefit thing too. It would have cost us less to have the Obamas in the Blair House than to go have to do the security scouting that keeping them someplace else would do. (Versus keeping them in a place that the Secret Service is very familiar with and has secured ages ago.)

John Howard is also not a foreign dignitary, not really, not any more. The fact that he's being put up while we let Tony Blair and a host of other current and former dignitaries make their own arrangements proves that he didn't really need to boot the Obamas out of Blair House. Least of all because he'll only be there the one night.

Former heads of foreign governments are dignitaries, period, and the respect is not extended so much to their persons as to the office they held and the country they represent. According to the article, all three visitors were offered Blair House, but only Howard accepted.

Stays in Blair House are not meant to be long; traditionally presidents-elect stayed there the night before the election. I think Harry Truman was the last guy to live there for an extended period (that was when the White House was being renovated).
