I'm sorry to come off so shallow in the midst of millions of lives being ruined in Southeast Asia, but this just came to my attention:

Jerry Orbach is dead.

Lenny Briscoe, as most of us know him, is gone from us forever. For more than a decade, half of my life at this point, he has always been there, with his smirk and his grin. He pushed beyond the fiction, too, supporting the PBA's requests for better salaries for NYC police officers. The man has been there, with his patented sense of humor and, as TNT calls it, "The Wisecrack," every episode, every time.

I'll miss you, Jerry. Watching "Law and Order" is now a way to grieve. Anyone have a copy of "Beauty and the Beast?"

Holy shit. And what's really creepy is this: Tuesday evening, possibly right around when he was passing, I mentioned to my family (as a syndicated showing featuring Justice-God Lenny was playing in the background) that last season had been his last, and the character had retired at the end of last season, to be replaced by a pale shadow in the current one.

So sad - he'd only been diagnosed with cancer three weeks ago.

AWWWW!!! I loved Jerry Orbach...

I'll have to give my Mom the bad news. Lenny was always her favorite too.

I'm embarrassed that I forgot he was Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast; you're welcome to borrow my DVD whenever you like.

Sometimes I can't believe how oblivious I am. The rest of the time I can.

OMG, I saw that in the paper when I was in California for my school's first-ever bowl game appearance (it sucked), and I cried right there in the hotel room and my roommates thought I was weird. I loved Briscoe and Lumiere liek whoa.
