MAY MOVIE

I believe you all know when and where our May Movie will be this year. YES? Excellent. People are possibly making plans for dinner aforehand. Please do! I won't be able to attend because I have to go between two different theaters in the Broadway area to pick up tickets I bought for shows for my mother (my work has a corporate discount!), so I'll just be making it in time for the line up.

Oh yes! We're going to shoot to line up 7:30ish. I'm really, really not sure how crowded a) this theater will be or b) this movie in general. We're seeing it at one of the few theaters that had the times up early and one of the few playing Thor in 2D. I'm heartened to see that the 34th street has added a few 2D show times, but I'm not sure whether this will be an issue or not. (What the hell do I know? The inhabitants of this city could love to pay $16 to a potentially shit movie in a definitely shit extra dimension.) We'll say 7:30 pm and hope to Odin that's early enough.

Only? We went to Fast Five last week and despite showing up what we thought was an excessive hour early, the line had already wrapped to the end of a back hallway I didn't even know existed. It was well on its way to doubling all the way back before they opened the doors.

You're talking about a sequel to a successful franchise that was promising to be even more appealing to its target audience than the last one. That, and we live in a very diverse city, who are exactly the sort who would go to the movie, in a place that gets a lot of traffic anyway.

Thor is an untested new property with, as yet, not much buzz on how good/bad it is, with a white dude (and mostly white people) in it. And we're seeing it at a theater that's a bit off the beaten path. I'm hoping half an hour will be enough.

I'll note that the MAY MOVIE has a 91% rating at rotten tomatoes, so it may not completely suck.

Damn it, I WANT to read reviews, but I'm trying really hard not to do that for movies I know I'm already going to see. It only biases me. I'm going into this with almost no confidence it'll be good and that leaves me ready to be pleasantly surprised. Every time I have expectations, they're thwarted. I need not to read reviews, like, ever.

Just printed my ticket, so I'm definitely in. Looking forward to it--as much the hanging out as the movie itself. :)

I'm done with work at 5, so I would very much like to make dinner plans. Second Avenue Deli is: a) near the theater, b) my favorite restaurant, so I'll happily lobby for dinner there. But I'm willing to go elsewhere if people prefer.

God movies in NYC are so expensive. I bought TWO movie tickets for only $2.50 more than I just paid for my one when I was in Boston.

I'm aiming to be at Second Ave. at 5:20-5:30. But we'll be there until we leave to walk over to the theater--which we can do at 7:15 and still meet the others to line up--so if you're running a little behind that, no worries.
