There are two things in my life that have ever gotten as tangled, on as regular a basis, as any given pair of earbud-style headphones I've ever had: Christmas lights and cross-stitch thread.

...this is ridiculous. Short of tightly wrapping the ear buds and tucking them into their own wrapped coils, every time I reach in my bag for my iPod, I retrieve it and headphones only slightly less snarled than a rabid wolverine. HOW does it do this? They were untangled when they went in the front pocket of my bag last night. My bag only moved this morning as I packed it with lunch (not in the same compartment as the headphones, mind) and took it with me to work. I take them out just now, and I have to stare in awe and wonder at how tangled they are. How!?

The case for my iPod is a little hoody. When I used earbuds, I'd always wrap them and but them in the hood, and they'd be fine. Do you wrap them around the iPod? That might help.

It's your cats. They go into your bag, play with the earbuds like it was yarn, then put them back.

Think I'm being whimsical? This morning, I woke up to find a stripped-bare chicken wing on the floor next to my bed that my cat proudly presented to me as if she had hunted, killed, cooked, and eaten it that very night (and had not just fished it out of the trash can)!

Normally, if I'm going to be running around like crazy, I do wrap them. I still am indignant that the few times I don't, they get this fucked up. WTF, headphones?

I'd believe that--my cats certainly wake me up sending more than a few things crashing to the ground in the mornings in their zeal following my post-first-alarm-snooze stirring. Except that this time the bag was zipped shut. THE MYSTERY CONTINUES.

Congratulations, you have proved the second law of thermodynamics.

Geez, you're living with a coil genius here and you've never asked for help??

There are two ways to wrap coil so it doesn't tangle. I'll show you both.
