What a weekend
May. 23rd, 2005 10:22 amFriggin hell. I can't believe I'm back at work already. I got off early on Friday to make a plane, despite the fact that the time had been rescheduled. I just used it as an excuse to get off early. Still, it feels like I was just here...
I flew to Sarasota Saturday morning, getting in at 11:45 from the 8:45 Jet Blue flight my mother booked us on so she could see my sister's last high school softball game on Friday night. I got woken up at 5:40 am by my mother in a panicked tizzy because she'd allowed me to oversleep. That's right, she wanted to get me up even earlier. We got to JFK with an hour and a half to spare, most of which I spent reading and listening to my iPod. The flight was fine, even though I didn't get to sleep. I watched Vh1 Classic's Classic/Current and discovered there's a new CD of Depeche Mode remixes that I'll have to check out. This is cool for me as I'd never seen one of their videos.
My cousin, Shawn, got married at 7pm Saturday, so we killed the few hours between our arrival and the wedding in the pool and watching Idle Hands at the hotel. I didn't bring a suit, assuming I wouldn't have the time to play in the water, but Dana loaned me one after my mother started freaking out about me possibly going in in my underwear and a tshirt (why!? I mean, my new undies with the citris fruit were soooo cute, and I have no one but the roomies I bought them with to show them of to!). I got burnt mostly on my face, aloe'd it up, changed, and went to the wedding none worse for the wear.
Wedding was nice, a lot more formal than my cousin's sister's (apparently he didn't like the informality of hers, so this time around he had his dad in a tux...in Florida...), and it was mercifully short on religious pronouncements of his wife's need to obey him all the time (there was one remark about her being supposed to follow his lead, but I missed whether or not he said sometihng similar in his vows so assumed it might have been equal and later learned it wasn't).
I spent most of the reception coralling cousins and siblings into going to see Star Wars, and a contingent of nine of us--All my siblings including Jotham, me, and my cousins Rhiannon, Kevin, and Elyse--went to the theater at midnight. Jotham and I stretched out over a bank of seats in a perfect spot dead center, and we had a marvelous time. Jotham spent most of the time in the corner of my eye because he was leaned forward through the whole movie. Much discussion was had after, asking all the relevant questions ("What does Dooku mean? 'Cause all the other 'darths' made sense..." Btw, the answer, as determined last night, was of course that Dooku was his real name and his Sith title was Darth Tyrannus, which makes sense). We chatted outside in the hotel parking lot until 3 am, returned to my parents room to find my mother up and waiting on me.
We took a packed 6:15 am Sunday flight back to JFK, spent a couple of hours chatting with family friends and went to my old grade school friend's bridal shower out on Long Island. It was really fantastic, actually, despite being tireder than a bastard. I got to see a few people I'd not seen in ages, found out one of them is a rising junior at CU, so I'll still have an excuse to hang around morningside here and there, and got some wine in me. My mom drove me back (I was unconscious for most of it) and I came in and collapsed until people hang-outage and my alarm woke me. We watched the first volume of the Clone Wars shorts, which were fun, but ultimately not necessary to understanding Revenge of the Sith. Maybe the second volume is better.
The short-short version of this weekend boils down to: I woke up early to catch a flight Saturday, went to a wedding, saw Revenge of the Sith at midnight, stayed up to catched a flight early Sunday to make it back to New York in time for a bridal shower and collapse ensued thereafter. I spent less than 24 hours in Florida, got less than twelve hours of sleep for the whole weekend, spent more than four hours geeking it up with cousins about Star Wars, and am well and truly poop-ed.

Date: 2005-05-24 12:49 am (UTC)"spent more than four hours geeking it up with cousins about Star Wars" - all of a sudden the siblings dont count anymore? *grins* Little known fact, your bro called me to geek out after the movie at about 3 am as well...but like i told him the extent of my knowledge when talking to him is "ooohhh light sabers are pretttttyyyyy"
And just as long as at the wedding you did not pick up one of the rings and hold it up and say "look sir, droids!" I think you did not geek out too much .....
