Blargh...

Am feeling decidedly out of sorts as result of giving blood. Yes, it seems that I cannot not donate blood when it's possible to do so, even when in another country entirely (the headache of filling in the forms should have kept me from doing it if anything--do you know how confusing it is to answer questions about having been overseas from a country that is technically overseas to you?). Balls, I came, I gave, I conquered. But for the rest of the day, I've been pretty weary in general, to the point of dizziness at other times. I've drunk lots of water, still no change. Got fluids into me that aren't water or caffeine even, still nothing.

Plus, I've been stressed out all day over a 'date' I just got back from. So, guy I met Saturday (Lee) asked me out to dinner, and I decided what the hell why not? He was nice, excruitiatingly so as he put up with my drunken rambling and what not. But whew, boring. Okay, nice, okay fairly nice looking, but BORING AS HELL. I tried, I really did. He's not into movies, which almost ended it all right there. He works six days a week, sometimes for 10-12 hours a day, has no life as far as I can tell. I asked the most general questions, some on the order of 'so, do you like stuff?' when I couldn't get anything more specific out of him. He likes footy, barracks for Essendon, which I learned Saturday and you can't really get more than that out of unless you follow it seriously. As seriously as I like the sport, I know next to nothing about its smaller details which is fine with me.

I did try. I explained to Carrie that I often have trouble keeping a conversation going for more than two hours with like new acquaintences. This was one of those times. I really really would have liked to have made it a worthwhile date for him, but man, I was like DYING. There was nothing I could see we had in common, save that we both liked somewhat Audioslave. That's it, music. My least strong suit. Where the hell are the geeks who like comics and video games out here? Man, I should have gotten the name out of the guy who was playing Enter the Matrix next to me in the library. He and I had a good long discussion (over even the distraction of video games!) about New Zealand, gave me some ideas for my vacation.

Speaking of which, I need to be packing. Tomorrow night, I'm off to the kiwi islands, prolly cabbing it with Nick and Jimmy, if they can be found/find me tomorrow. I really need to get to packing. I had to sorta call it a night early with Lee anyway to do it (thank god for the excuse), and I'm still dizzy-ish and not at all recovered, so it's going to take me too long to do it. Also need to call home..argh, too much to do! Not enough time for poor little old me.

I got one word for you...

Protein!!! After giving blood first comes fluids and then the protein. Iron supplements wouldn't hurt either. You need to give your body the raw materials to replace that which was lost. Have fun visiting C. in the land of kiwis (and try not to hurt anyone if you follow her to sword practice).
