So there are only ever two aunts I talk about on my LJ: One is my godmother who has no milk of human kindness where it comes to just about anyone, and the other is her polar opposite who has the unfortunate distinction of being 'one of those' type of Christian. This is about the latter. She is a wonderful person, generous, kind, solicitous, just an all-around good person.

She sent yet another of her crusading e-mails, disguised as a "isn't that something?" type of story. If you look it up on Snopes.com, it's the one about Denzel Washington. Apparently, according to the e-mail, he toured some Fisher something-something homes, set up to give families of wounded soldiers, at no expense, a place to live near their injured love one while he/she convalesces. Upon hearing how much one of these bases would take to set up and maintain, the do-gooder Oscar winner whipped out his checkbook and signed away enough cash for two bases or some such. Snopes will sort you out and say that while, yes, Mr. Washington donated a sizable amount to this charity, time passed between his visit and the donation, and while certainly magnanimous, his donation didn't cover as much as rumored. This isn't looking a gift horse in the mouth or anything, but just reporting the facts.

What bugs me really is that the e-mail she forwarded tacked on a good paragraph whining about how anti-Americans like Sean Penn and Tim Robbins get in the news all the time for their anti-American activities (dissent, a quintessential American trait, seeming to be out of favor with the letter writer), no one has heard of this Denzel story. I doubt that very much if it has its own entry on Snopes (meaning its been circulated enough to be an urban legend). Either way, it was a lovely, touching story to hear that someone with a lot of money if not on a whim then at least with sincere affection donated to this very worthy charity and the person writing the e-mail had to spoil it by tying up politics and a marked disdain for political activism against our current government at the end.

The writer also spelled Madonna 'Modonna,' begging the question, if she, like the other liberal anti-Americans, is on the cover of eeeeeeeevery magazine, why he couldn't spell her name right? I smell conspiracy of the Catholic-hating kind. How many millions would know how to spell that regardless of the Material Girl and this schmuck eff's it up?

Ditto on the above (a delayed ditto, but a ditto nonetheless).

This was another incredibly eloquent, engaging anecdote, and one with which many of us with the requisite Conservative Aunt/Uncle can relate. Hooray for Dayle!
