HAPPY RELOADED DAY!!!
Oct. 14th, 2003 11:38 pmYay! In honor of The Matrix Reloaded coming to DVD today, I have changed my icon AWAY from a Matrix Reloaded icon. I think that makes sense. Then again, putting wedges on pizza made a lot of sense to me, too. Wedges and pizza! The most incongruous combination of foods and thus the most perfect!
Ahem, yes, so HAPPY RELOADED DAY!!!
FAS Trivia Night tonight was bloody brilliant. Sure, there were lots of questions I couldn't answer, but they asked how many people were on the Nebuchadnezzar before Neo was freed, asked us to ID "What's This?" from The Nightmare Before Christmas (and it was bonus points for knowing who sang/recorded/wrote it--uh, all three of which happen to be Danny Elfman for that one), and, oddly enough, I knew one of the answers to a Star Trek question, two if you count the question "How many Star Trek movies have there been?" The answer to the latter is 10. The other question was about the names of bodies some creature from Deep Space Nine has inhabited, and I actually knew the answer to one of them because it was the episode where the cast went back in time to the Tribble episode of the original Star Trek series--which was actually pretty cool as that is a classic episode. The parasite-creature thingy was being all skeevy about having slept with Dr. Mccoy in whatever form she'd been in back then, so when the question asked for three bodies it had lived in, our answer was "A bowl of petunias, Mr. Squiggles, and the chick who did Dr. Mccoy"--oh, did I mention bonus points were given for creative answers that weren't necessarily right?
Needless to say, we aced the sci-fi movies category, which was fairly standard stuff, Labyrinth, The Princess Bride, LOTR (ooh, I got bonus points for giving the exact dialogue in the answer to "What were Merry and Pippin doing--MINDS OUT OF THE GUTTER!!! HONESTLY, YOU PEOPLE!!!!--before they ran into Sam and Frodo in the movie?"), Matrix, etc. Where it got really hard was in answering questions about the club we're all meant to be members of. See, our team consisted of me, Kate, Darren, and two visiting friends of the club's president, Erin and Kevin. So, add that up and what do you get? Two non-University of Melbourne students, one exchange student, and two first year students. Wow, we got any questions right? When they asked who the seven people on the FAS committee were, my answer was "THE DRAGONS OF EARTH!" Only Kevin got it, but neither of us could remember any of the names (I got as far as Fuuma, that guy--erm, the evil blonde one?--, that girl with the computer, that army guy and then gave up and voted for the Suzaku seishi instead ^.~).
Also, Darren's getting me a *AHEM AHEM* TOTALLY LEGAL Matrix Reloaded purely in honor of Matrix Reloaded day. That's right, I paid him for it and everything.
*cough*
Right. Well, happy Reloaded day once again, and I'm off to burn some CDs and possibly do work that's due. But here's some juicy things that have happened or been noticed by me in the past few whatevers:
-When Aussies strike, boy, do they mean it--there's a strike this Thursday against raising dues on teachers and Uni fees and the Uni is going to be literally closed off--as in strikers will try to keep you from going on campus, and the library's going to be closed (thus my 3-hour booking for video game study--honest studying for a final!!--is off). Somehow, I'm still supposed to attend my one class that day. Riiiiiiight...
-There was a forum held today where academic-type people were discussing life after Buffy--no joke, they actually were holding a talk with that as its main subject, as in what to watch now, how to move on, how to keep the world of Buffy alive...(am v.scared of that level of dedication, especially after last season was something of a let-down in many ways)
-It's actually cheaper to buy a full meal here than to buy any two parts of a combo on their own. So, if you just want a soda and sandwich at KFC, you should buy the combo meal because it's cheaper, even if you don't want the chips. This is how I got free chips at KFC because I went to order large chips and some guy was like "Don't do that, I'll buy the meal and you can have the chips I wasn't going to eat." Aussies are pretty cool :)
-You can't buy liquor of any kind in a supermarket (this includes beer or wine cooler-types) unless it has one of those separate wine/liquor/beer sections. (just wish I hadn't had to ask Nicole from karate about this to know--hope she does not consider me a lush!)
-Australia does not recognize the 'aboriginal passport'--a non-Australian government issued passport that Aboriginals can get from the Aboriginal something or other government (which does actually confirm to the letter of the law as a legitimate passport). If you try to enter the country with one, they refuse to allow you entrance. Instead, you are considered an illegal immigrant. The penalty? You are sent back to your country of origin. Six and one half dozen of the other, as they say.
-The Liberal Party is the major politically conservative party.
-I've met more All Blacks fans at Uni and seen more walking the streets than I've seen Wallabies fans. This may just be due to the fact that the All Blacks fans are...well...*makes Paul's hand gesture on (Carrie, what side is it?)* fucking psycho!!!
-Life Support, a semi-sketch 'helpful living' type show suggested the following ways to make your live better/easier/less politcally correct:
That's all I can remember for the moment. More to come as it no doubt will...

-Life Support, a semi-sketch 'helpful living' type show suggested the following ways to make your live better/easier/less politcally correct:
1) Single mothers should dress up small children as dogs so potential boyfriends aren't scared off by the kids, whereas all blokes like dogs. ("It helps to get him a little bit pissed so he won't be surprised when the dog talks back")
2) Place pregnancy magazines on the desk of a female rival for a promotion, place used pregnancy kit boxes in rubbish bins, mention how your female colleague looked ill in the morning--all to make sure that the politically correct candidate isn't chosen for a promotion
3) Use liquid latex dyed peach to coat a bong in a...phallic shape so that policemen searching your bag for drug paraphenalia will quickly hand your bag back--can work for sheilas and blokes alike ("They won't be too keen to touch anything they think's been up another bloke's bum")
4) Asian friends are cute--everyone should have one.
That's all I can remember for the moment. More to come as it no doubt will...
