I know [livejournal.com profile] earthrise is out because she gave too recently, but who wants to take a trip on the blood bus with me? It's donating blood...on a bus! How awesome is that? Plus, I have it on good authority that they'll really take care of you on this bus. I got two gallons of juice to take home with me last time, and half of another that I had mostly finished. They also dumped a thousand cookies on me. True, they were closing up and we were the last to donate, but still!

Here's the blood drive appointment-maker if you want to sign up: http://www.columbia.edu/cu/president/blooddrive

I'm up for a 7:30 pm donation on 10/20, which would be Thursday. Other times are listed on the web page, but the BLOOD BUS is there all next week! After work times, too! If you're going to make the bus run, I suggest making an appointment--there was a line last time, which was why I was the last to give. Save a life: lose a half-pint!

Can't sorry - I'm strictly NPV. Non-palpable veins. The nurses never seem to find anything to stick.

I read this slowly, saw the acronym first, and said, "Ivy is Net Present Value? What does that have to do with donating blood?"

For my part, I've avoided donating ever since the time I had a nasty reaction and passed out. Not that I dealt well with the needles in the first place.

That's all right. I ask only that people try, and never have I ever made anyone go back who had the slightest ill reaction to it. I talked two people into donating who've had bad reactions or were otherwise unable to do it again. One was my friend in high school who had your problem, where they stuck her again and again and couldn't find a vein. I was horrified they tried so many times on her, and if I've never told her how proud I was, well, I will next time I see her.

The other time my other friend gave just fine, but due to an antibody she's had in her system since birth, she was told not to donate again because it tripped their disease censors. She's not sick, but the way they screen it, she seems it. I'm proud of her lots because she was so good about going and giving despite knowing this was probably not going to work out.

It's a shame too, because I have no problem with needles or donating in general, and I have O+ blood. I'll just have to wait until I'm older and frailer and all my veins come rising to the surface.

Might be you've got thin veins. Should be careful about that, there's a host of complications associated with narrow vessels.

I've had this problem in the past, too, and apparently being in good physical shape can bring your veins to the surface. I've only successfully donated twice, both when I'd been exercising in some regular fashion.

I'm far from buff, but I guess it makes sense (all those hideous bodybuilders have poofy sticky-out veins).

I might do it on Thursday--depending on whether I get tickets to Sweeney Todd or not.

Awesome. All aboard the blood bus! Thanks for considering it. What blood type are you? If you're O or B, they really need it.

Yeah, I should definitely give more--I think I'm O-, universal and all that. The few times I have tried to give for a cause they have been all full up.

Well, I know they need that. Come along then! Make your appointment! Even if they don't sack us with the booty, I'll buy you a bottle of water and juice of your choosing.

Just gotta remember to tape Smallville, and we're set.

Boo. If you'd just wait, I'm ready to go again in November.

We need to sync up our donings. Yes.
