This is a fantastic series. I love it to death, even if the two-parter involving Starbuck was more than a little hammy and just a tad off given the pragmatic approach of all the characters before that. It had some 'awwwww' moments that made [livejournal.com profile] feiran teary, but it was overall a fun episode.

My new favoritest part of the whole series has to be Apollo flipping the fuck out when the Cylon ship starts flying with him and flips over to reveal "Starbuck" written on the bottom (or was that the top?). Captain Mchottypants cheering, Starbuck being generally awesome, and Cylon domination all in one. I hope she names the ship something now that she's keeping it.

"Aww, he likes me!"

In other news, I caved and agreed to go upstate tonight and tomorrow to be there for the installation of equipment. My dad is compensating me, which is nice, and I'll get to go for a drive, which is, too, but meh, I'm less excited about it than resigned to it. Damn me and my reliability! Good thing I'm almost certainly dragging [livejournal.com profile] viridian along.

UK version went on sale about 2 months before the US version. How could I say no. But if the opening mini-series is in the set you saw, then yeah it's the US version.

They're watching episodes I recorded from the SciFi channel; I haven't picked up the commercial DVDs yet.

As far as I know, the only difference between the UK and US sets is the UK had a different opening title sequence (oddly enough, series 1 aired there before it aired in the US!), which is now being used for the second season US episodes. There are various rumors on the Net that there are other content edits to the UK versions when they aired, but were restored on DVD.

The US release of season one does include the miniseries, but unfortunately all of the bonus materials were not carried over from the standalone Miniseries DVD release. I think this might include the deleted scenes from the miniseries as well. The US release also has the international opening, so you're not really losing anything by giving up the mostly barebones UK edition.

I'm not too sure about the way they'll be releasing season 2 on DVD: the first half of the episodes in December (volume 2.0) in time for the second half to air in January. On the one hand it's nice to catch people up, on the other it will probably end up costing more in the end.
