LOST - A Good Distraction
Nov. 10th, 2005 01:30 amI haven't seen the whole show, this is true, though tonight after the new episode I polished off the first disc. I'd seen the pilot but not the episodes after, and they were alright. Sawyer looks better with less-greasy hair for one, though Jin looks better now his hair is longer. Dear Lord, these women are skinny. That about sums up my feelings on the matter. There was a question I had about the second episode, but I can't remember. Was kinda funny to see the guy who played Rance Burgess in the Firefly episode "Heart of Gold" turn up as the assholely law man. Did Locke see the monster on the island in the third episode where he took down the boar?
Jump ahead to season two thus far. The first episode of season 2 established in Jack's flashback how he met his wife. She was a victim of a car crash that he managed to save and then who was miraculously able to walk despite his failure to restore her spinal cord to order. There was a man brought in at the same time who, as implied by the flatlining while Jack worked on future Mrs. Jack, died. Tonight, I swear I thought I saw Jack brush by Shannon and her step-monster when they went to the hospital to find out what happened to Shannon's father. I so wish I had DVR or TiVo for this, but did anyone else see Jack? Does that mean he didn't save Shannon's father?
The Shannon-centric flashbacks made me hate her a little less, but not very. Basically, her step-monster thought she was a loafer and a leech, and she probably was. She got tired of it being implied, so she decided to become "You think I can't/won't...?" prove-that-she-could girl. But she went about it in completely the wrong way. Instead of lashing out at the step-mother and showing her up by returning Boone's money and interest on top, she just had to be difficult. Now that story line will never be fully explored (unless there is a connection to Jack after all). I know we are all rueing that this is the case (not).
Other seeming hint of the evening--Libby, the blonde gal from the tail end survivor group, seemed especially anxious about Ana-Lucia's description of what happened to their group. In the episode for next week, the preview showed children being taken. Is one or more of them Libby's/in her care?
