I am still taking fandoms, but here's the answers to the two posited to me by [livejournal.com profile] feiran and [livejournal.com profile] chuckro, respectively:

1. The first character I first fell in love with:
Easy: Ron Weasley. It's always been Ron. I saw the first movie before I read a one of the books, so my appreciation is definitely biased in his favor because Rupert Grint made those adorable 'I-am-terrified-out-of-my-wits' faces. Ron in the books is actually incredibly brave, and there's some disconnect in the portrayal of him onscreen and in the books that works for me. I like that he might pout and gasp but that he still does follow Harry into certain death pretty much without ever complaining.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
Toughy. Most of the ones I met and liked, I stayed liking, and ones I didn't I stayed disliking. I suppose Ginny, though Book 6 pissed me off a bit, with it ending on her confessing to have pined away after Harry since Book 2. I liked the Ginny of Book 5, who's an incredible witch and not afraid to tell Harry to stop showboating his connection to Voldemort--she's been there, too, and she's come off pretty well, all things considered.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't:
How about every Slytherin ever? I don't like Draco, and I have no sympathy at all for him because he's scared of Voldemort. Plenty of folk are in HP, and him being a git doesn't mean he is secretly tormented etc etc. I also dislike Snape for much the same reason, although the Occlumency lessons seemed to imply he'd had a miserable childhood and young adulthood for which I am sympathetic (anyone else still wondering how James Potter ever went from showing off Snape's bloomers to being a hero?).

4. The character I love that everyone else hates:
I don't know if everybody hates her, but I like Tonks. Sure, her crush on Remus Lupin is enough to make me gag, but she's cute and spunky, and I like that she's an Auror and a complete clutz. She may not be Kingsley Shacklebolt, but she's competant and tough just the same. Plus, I feel for her for having that stupid name--Nymphadora? Sheesh.

5. The character I used to love but don't any longer:
Dumbledore. That's the first easy one since question #1. Book 6 ruined Dumbledore for me, which was hard to do because I was sort of in awe of him when he and Voldemort conflicted in Book 5. I really detested his "I haven't told you anything for years, so now I'll be dumping six years worth of stuff on you and not imparting anything of use in the span of one term" operation. So, yeah, I'm sorry he's gone, but I was totally over him.

6. The character I would shag anytime:
Lupin. This surprises even me. I thought I'd say Sirius (and I wouldn't turn him down, mind), but Lupin is the most tragic figure. James and Sirius died heroes; Lupin is left to suffer. But he doesn't give up--most wizards wouldn't trust him for being a werewolf, and he can't ever have nice things, but he keeps trying. I have a soft spot for the non-egomaniacal, patient crusader.

7. The character I'd want to be like:
Hermione. I want to be as smart and as willing to break rules as her. Plus, if a nice boy like Ronald was interested in me, that wouldn't hurt either.

8. The character I'd slap:
Harry. I've wanted to slap him since forever. Book 5 only cemented it. I want to shake him so hard and tell him to get over himself--in my opinion of his opinion of himself, Snape and I almost agree. Harry wasn't always that way--in earlier books, he was very sweet and mild tempered even--but he's sorta fulfilled the prophecy Snape laid out in the first year--he totally is arrogant as a bastard at times.

9. A pairing that I love:
Hermione and Ron. Not even romantically always, but just in general. They're terribly cute when they're fighting :)

10. A pairing that I despise:
Slash. Period. I can accept that there were some eyebrow raising-worthy moments in HBP because Harry seemed to think Tom Riddle was gorgeous every time he saw him in the Pensieve, and he was a tad obsessed with Draco, but both those pairings and just about every other slash pairing in HP disgusts and annoys me. HP is truly one of the worst fandoms for 'hating each other' = 'mad hawt butt sex'. Just ew. I'm not a fan of Harry/Ginny, either, and I've expressed my laments about Lupin/Tonks. But Harry/Draco probably takes the cake. Also, if the internet could stop Snape/Hermione-ing please?

1. The first character I first fell in love with:
Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson. The first Pratchett book I read was Men at Arms, so he featured pretty prominently. I love that he's not quite sly but not quite all honest, even though he's one hundred percent faithful in the idea that right with triumph over might (that he's also mightily tall, strong, handsome, and eerily well-liked doesn't hurt). I guess this might also have something to do with my love for Aragorn being especially strong when I first got into the Discworld (gotta love the descendants of fallen kings).

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
Lord Havelock Vetinari. I love him. I definitely love him more than Carrot these days. Everything the Patrician is is amazing. I think Night Watch is one of my favorites for showing him as a child, being just practically smarter than anybody within a three-mile radius and vicious to boot. The way he manages to shape together the city (and it has gotten a better shape over the course of the books where he's been in charge) is pretty awesome, and he does it with such style, too. He's the man, and he's got my vote.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't:
Susan Death. I just...I can't get around to liking her. I love Death to pieces, but Susan strikes me as extremely annoying for no reason I can put a finger on. Perhaps it's her near-Mary Sue-ishness, but I take heart that Susan would find somebody with her lack of a sense of humor and amazing ability to stay calm and kick ass extremely annoying, too. Rincewind is up there, too.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates:
Not sure, really. I don't think I love anyone people don't generally like on some level. I like Esme Weatherwax, but I suspect most people do, too. Perhaps they just don't love her as much as Nanny Ogg--does that count?

5. The character I used to love but don't any longer:
Angua. I do still sorta like her, but she has gotten old hat with all the other new watchmen added. And whatsherbutt in Thud! had it right: she is following Carrot around like a puppy too much.

6. The character I would shag anytime:
Carrot. I like muscles, what can I say?

7. The character I'd want to be like:
Vetinari, but I wouldn't mind being the Bursar for reasons it's best not to dwell upon.

8. The character I'd slap:
Ridcully. Or maybe the Dean. Hell, the entire faculty of UU could use some bitch slaps, with the exception of Ponder Stibbons and the Bursar, the only two wizards I like.

9. A pairing that I love:
Tie: Magrat and the King of Lancre (can't remember his name at present) and Sam and Sybil Vimes. Those couples really make families work. God knows how they do it on the Disc, but there you are. In a non-romantic way, I have always enjoyed Nobby Nobbs and Fred Colon. They're quite a team.

10. A pairing that I despise:
There aren't many in there to despise that are of any importance, and I don't read fanfiction, so I can't name any off the top of my head. I can say I've been rolling my eyes at every boy who flirts with Susan, though I suspect that's because I dislike her character more than I think the pairings were especially bad. Otherwise, too few relationships are paired up and come back in the Discworld for me to despise any of them.

Bring on more fandoms! More fandoms I say! Give me a fandom you know that I know, and I will tell you:

1. The first character I first fell in love with:
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't:
4. The character I love that everyone else hates:

6. The character I would shag anytime:
7. The character I'd want to be like:
8. The character I'd slap:

You should have seen the teenage girls who created Diagon Alley out of gingerbread. That was something...
