This week, it was Horatio Hornblower. There's this A&E box set special, 50% off. So, yeah, I bought the set. It's well worth it, and I'll get to see the other half of the movies that my parents didn't have on their set without having to wait weeks at a time to get through them (I should really upgrade my Netflix account). And this after I picked up Pitch Black, Love, Actually, and Dragnet this weekend (hey, there was a sale, and Dragnet was free, so back off).

Just putting it out there. Anyone wants to borrow them in about two weeks when I get them, feel free to bug me about it. I feel bad about the $40 expenditure, but I got bribed by my parents as reward for going home this weekend to chauffeur my sister, so I can spare it. It's worth it for a huggable box set with the oh-so-cute Mr. Gruffudd and Mr. Bamber. I'd have bought the first half of Battlestar Galactica Season 2.0, but I want to wait until it's all out on DVD. I expect that will be a better value.

ROFL! Lancelot and Apollo to the rescue!

Somebody said to me the other day that I do this all backwards--i.e., when I see an actor who played X in a movie in a new work, I always go, "Oh look, it's X! As a [fill in the blank incongruous job]" instead of "Oh look, it's [the actor] trying to be a [something implausible]." So, instead of "Hey, it's Hugo Weaving as Lord Elrond," I go "OMG AGENT SMITH IS TOTALLY AN ELF!" (And, when The Matrix sequels came out well after my Lord of the Rings fannishness had held sway for two years, it was the opposite--"WHY IS LORD ELROND EEEEEEEVIL?")

So, yeah. The only confusion is which of the characters to chose to represent the actor forever more? It helps if they're only in like one major blockbuster movie (hence, Carrie Ann Moss forever being Trinity, no matter what). With Ioan Gruffudd, I think I will go with Mr. Fantastic over Lancelot only because I don't usually like facial hair, and I have such an Elektra complex, so the little bits of gray hair at his temples in Fantastic Four pushes all the right "older man" buttons.

And now that I've been so totally blunt and screamed out personal stuff, I'm going to confess I don't actually think I know you. If I do, correct me (it takes me forever to recognize people I have met offline online. If I don't, Hi! How'd you get here? Take a wrong turn at Alburquerque?

LOL - I don't think I know you either! I really have no idea when or how I added you to my flist, but I'm glad I did! Nice to meet you, I'm Emily. *shakes hands*

I do agree with you about Mr. Fantasic over Lancelot - though the very act of saying Mr. Fantastic makes me rather giggly because it's so very silly. Though I really shall always love Ioan for Horatio. What can I say? I'm an Age of Sail person. Also, King Arthur was a horrible, horrible movie with the only redeeming feature was Ioan and the blue archery costume of Guinevere's. And even that was annoying because I think doing archery in it would be problematic.

How could you discuss King Arthur and not talk about...well, King Arthur? Clive Owen is sex walking, you ask me, so it says something very particular about Ioan Gruffudd's ability that I paid him any attention at all (Clive Owen sucks the collective attention of an audience to him at all times--look at his like two lines in The Bourne Identity, he nearly stole the entire movie from Matt Damon). But other than the entirely fun fight scenes, and the husband-and-wife bickering between Arthur and Lancelot, no it didn't have too too much to recommend it. I enjoy it, but it's not one I'd go out and buy for myself.

I must agree with you on the giggle-fest that is Mr. Fantastic's name. I think that's why most people call him by his real name, which may be (since he's a bloody genius) what he intended all along (he probably doesn't truck much with the superhero name thing).

Hi, Emily. I'm Dayle. I shall add you back because I like making interweb friends. Hurrah!
