[livejournal.com profile] deepredbelle is going to keep me in fic challenges forever and ever.

There's a community called [livejournal.com profile] 1character where you pick a set of 50 themes and write exactly one line about or from the point of view of any character in fandom. This is too awesome to be ignored, especially as it challenges me not to write thirty billion pages (instead, I've written three or four sentences which must be distilled down or written around to produce the one). Might I suggest that [livejournal.com profile] ivy03 wander over? You'd really like it, and you're already a natural at the one-liners of DOOM!

I chose Lt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace and, because I was watching Pitch Black at the time I saw the contest, Richard B. Riddick. I'm not sure if I'll include the self-aggrandizing Chronicles of Riddick in the 50 lines, but I'm certain I'll make Starbuck's as up-to-date as I can, though some of the lines are easy to let get bogged down in the undefined pre-military, pre-Galactica story of Kara's life that was only hinted at in "The Farm" and whatever that episode was where she was having Zac-backs.

Fortunately, TWoP has Galactica reviews, which cracks my shit up. The writer who reviewed the miniseries made the scene of Starbuck and Apollo meeting in the brig sound like a porno, said that the second law of robotics was "Robo-sex," and coined the greatest term since "ProDoom": "The cult of Olmos." I will be hard pressed to continue on in anything like a serious fashion with this challenge after that, not to mention it will be hard to keep my friends page titled "Woo Scarf'd!" when "Cult of Olmos" calls to me...

Should be a short rant again this year because again I have not seen even one-half of the films nominated. But I'll do my best:

Behind the cut, categories in bold, my predictions in italics )

Other things worth mentioning: oh look, almost no big-blockbuster movies got anything. They get token items (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory being nominated for costuming makes me giggle; Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for art direction makes me go "huh?"), but they are largely ignored. Shame. No offense to the indies, but people don't want to go to the movies for 'thinking' pictures all the goddamned time. If this indepedent takeover holds sway, I'm never going to see any movie before May or after August in the theaters--for real, I think the only movie I saw in the fall was Harry Potter.

Go Wallace and Gromit for best animated film! Woo for not hearing of a single one of the foreign films for N years running! As long as Pride & Prejudice doesn't give Keira Knightly an Oscar, I don't really care what else anything wins, and I mean that.
