Elektra wasn't unwatchably bad. It had one good action sequence, a couple of neat special effects/characters, and that was about it. It was joyless-ly bad. I mean, not a single-joke-to-be-found, unhappy-all-the-time anger, angst, and moroseness. Much as I am dubious of that movie's representation of just about anyone, I actually miss the Elektra from Daredevil who actually smiled--shocker! I stand by what I said this past week--Fantastic Four was better, if only because it made me genuinely amused and wasn't mad in love with itself and its own melodrama.

Oh, and, if not for the eleventh hour romance, the last bit of Horatio Hornblower could have been my favorite. It had all the ingredients--the army/navy rivalry and respect; the French being, well, French; more cute Horatio and Kennedy bonding and such. But the French tart can go b**se herself.

This week, it was Horatio Hornblower. There's this A&E box set special, 50% off. So, yeah, I bought the set. It's well worth it, and I'll get to see the other half of the movies that my parents didn't have on their set without having to wait weeks at a time to get through them (I should really upgrade my Netflix account). And this after I picked up Pitch Black, Love, Actually, and Dragnet this weekend (hey, there was a sale, and Dragnet was free, so back off).

Just putting it out there. Anyone wants to borrow them in about two weeks when I get them, feel free to bug me about it. I feel bad about the $40 expenditure, but I got bribed by my parents as reward for going home this weekend to chauffeur my sister, so I can spare it. It's worth it for a huggable box set with the oh-so-cute Mr. Gruffudd and Mr. Bamber. I'd have bought the first half of Battlestar Galactica Season 2.0, but I want to wait until it's all out on DVD. I expect that will be a better value.
