First off: HAPPY BIRTHDAY [livejournal.com profile] arcfox7!!!!! Ooh, shall I be cruel to him and say just how old he is all over LJ? Nah, I'll be good. He doesn't deserve it, but I'll be nice. I was very tempted to call at midnight EST just to say, "Hey, you're ***** in my timezone!" Happy Birthday, Big D; make sure you enjoy it to the fullest. By that, I mean a) have a drink or five, b) go do something crazy like surfing at night or skydiving (note: tell mom after the fact), and c) come home to enjoy the presents we sent you. Happy happy!

Got to see my grandfather this weekend, think I scandalized my mother by running off on a tangent when my dad brought up Dr. Louann Brizendine, author of a book that should be titled How Come Them Bitches Talk Like Way Too Fucking Much? Here's Some "Science" to Make Them Shut Up!. My youngest sister, sweet thing, was like "Isn't it hypocritical of her to support a theory of women's supposed inferior brain?" I told her she was right and mentioned how some conservative women support all sorts of measures that are totally "Do as I say..." type deals (like fucking Ann Coulter never got her rocks off without being married first or never used birth control--personally, I think her hideous evil should be a deal-killer, but there are desperate guys out there, I suppose....don't know any that desperate myself...). I mentioned contraceptive use and abortions but didn't dwell. Got the ::crickets:: kind of response and mom lept to fill the conversation with an amusing anecdote about my brother-in-law. Yeeeeaaaaaaaahhhh.

Good to see Grandpa, though. He rarely gets to hang out because his wife (not my grandmother) is always sick and her health always seems to come ahead of his family commitments (this isn't me being a bitch, okay? This woman seriously gets "complications" or "sick" every time he and she are supposed to come hang out with our family; when they have plans with her daughter, she's mysteriously healthy every time--funny, innit?). I shouldn't bad-mouth, as she's currently been operated on a bunch of times for a pacemaker repair. I don't wish her ill; I just wish she'd let my mother have any kind of close relationship to her father.

Last bit of family news: my future niece is almost surely going to be Cassandra Sage. I am in love with Sage--it's beautiful and it's actually a family name (on my maternal grandfather's side). I could take or leave Cassandra, but it's not my baby, as I told my sister. I just wanted to know what the nicknaming procedure was (she and my brother-in-law are anal enough that I could fully believe they had the nickname picked out, too--I would), and if she'd be a Cass or a Cassie. Cassie or Cass will be fine, but, of course, won't be determined until much, much later. But she has a name!

I appreciate the last post was boring. Allow me to make up for it to a couple of you. This cut-tag is for Trakkie and Viridian! )

Okay, I have mastered the formula for old skool Doctor Who episode names. It's like "Blanks on a Blank" only it's "The Blank of Blank." The only requirement is that the second Blank be something vaguely sinister (or, as in the case of Genesis of the Daleks, something very sinister--and cute!). "The Pie of Doom!" "The Elderberries of Discontent!" "The Circus Midgets of Questionable Morals!"

And Tom Baker continues to be a great Doctor. Really love him. Dunno about Leela. Mostly, I just don't care about her. I don't dislike her for all that she's wrapped in nearly nonexistent leather, but I'm not loving that fantasy trope either. I miss Sarah Jane :(

Latest Torchwood gets a "Well, that was a waste of my time" review. Really, did anything happen? That eye better be friggin' important for me to put up with an entire hour of just Gwen doing her sympathy schtick. Oh, hi the rest of Torchwood! Bye, the rest of Torchwood!

::grinds teeth::

Still marveling over the last Spooks I watched, though. I really like Tom's girlfriend and her daughter. It broke my heart after he told her his real name and then called her using it and she totally didn't respond to it when someone told who was on the line. I don't think she was being mean, I think she just honestly didn't connect the name to the person. And the daughter falling in love with him as a spy? So adorable! It's nice to see the occasional child actor/actress that doesn't make you want to vomit up the artificial sweetener.

See? I noticed something other than naked Giles and snarky Hugh Laurie!
