Meme for distraction
Jun. 16th, 2006 04:19 pmI've been to the apartment to find the forlorn gas piping sticking out of the wall. It really wants to be connected to a stove. It's being consoled by the equally miserable empty nook for the fridge. Unless appliances are like heroes and have to appear at the last minute to save the day, it's looking like we won't be seeing one today. Chances of it then appearning before Monday are slim-to-none, though you never can tell what might be delivered on a Saturday or Sunday in New York City.
Anyway,
deepredbelle tagged me for this meme:
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your livejournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.
Hmm. Well, I've been mostly subsisting on what made it onto my iPod before I lost the old computer. Ambrose isn't fully refurbished with mp3s just yet. So, I'll list off the ones that have been stuck in my head a lot or that I've played over and over instead of, you know, actually getting new mp3s onto Ambrose. I might even follow
deepredbelle's lead and post links later.
Joss Stone - Whatever Happened to the Heroes?
Right on the heels of my bizarre dream, I started listening to this song again because it's on the Fantastic Four soundtrack. Joss Stone really has an amazing voice, very distinctive and soulful. It's a pity her songs aren't usually very good though. It's kinda like Macy Gray--I like her voice, but not her music much. This one is different. It shows off her ability, it's fun, and I loved it from the first time I heard it.
The Cure - Burn
Thanks be to The Crow for this one. I've been replaying it for days because I'm not convinced that the compression I made with the non-iTunes program is preserving the heavy bass line I prefer in my music, and I've used this for my comparison song. I love it. This and "Dead Souls" are my two favorite songs on that album, which isn't a surprise to anyone because I only ever listen to NIN or The Cure when I'm being moody (which explains why I've been listening to so much of them recently, I guess).
The Exies - Hey You
I blame Guitar Hero. I've got a folder devoted to the songs from that game, and I'm adding to it as I find the music. I've had almost no luck with "Ready 2 Rokk" by Freezepop. I should just go buy that album. But "Hey You" is sexy and fun, and I love the opening riff. Gotta have good riffs to make it into a guitar simulation game.
Chicago (Musical) - Cell Block Tango
This has hovered around in my brain since I saw the musical again with
saikogrrl. I was humming the chorus to myself at work, and I surprised myself by being able to recite nearly all of the spoken parts as well (except the Hunyak bit, o'course). It's so much fun, especially when I've been ranting about feminism and rights of late, to sit back and sing, "He had it coming..."
The Beatles - Maxwell's Silver Hammer
Know it back to front, love it to death (no pun intended). There's something about a cheerful tune describing horrible, painful, premeditated murder that I just can't help but love. Peppy songs about loss and pain = stupid. Happy-go-lucky, guilt-free songs about mayhem and sociopathic destruction = yes, please!
Aurora - Ordinary World
Decent dance version of a great Duran Duran song. I think I might prefer this to the original. It's less nasal than the original, which makes for more fun singing it.
Don McLean - American Pie
Not obsessed with it of late, but it was on the radio today, and it was just the right song for today. A coworked says today actually feels like summer, and that's probably what it was: the perfect summer song at the perfect moment. First time listening to the radio today in a loooong while, too. Also, it was hilarious that this song should be put on immediately after The Stones' "Jumpin' Jack Flash" (and I trust most of us are versed well enough in the lore of "American Pie" that you know why that's funny). By the time it came on, I'd already enjoyed a Beatles block and a Queen block, so this has put me in a better mood than I started out the day with, which helps.

I call dibs on the gum-popping one.

Date: 2006-06-19 02:30 pm (UTC)And Nails did a song called "Burn," too, but that's not the "Burn" on The Crow soundtrack. In fact, "Burn" by NIN is on the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider soundtrack. True story. The two songs are nothing alike, as you can well imagine :)
