SO, for all two of you who don't read [livejournal.com profile] feiran's livejournal, we got KITTIES yesterday.

We went to the ASPCA on 92nd street, apparently bypassing the NYACC's adopt-a-thon, much to our regret when we later learned of it (we ran into a volunteer on the bus home). The hardest thing about going to a shelter for kitties is that you can't take them all home with you. I truly didn't care what cat we got, kitten or adult, black and white, tabby, calico--I just wanted a couple of friendly ones with not too much medical crap going on to confuse me. It was so hard to not take any of them, especially as many were friendly and feisty. The ones that were pair-bonded weren't cuddly or active, but they were bonded, so we debated getting them. It was horribly depressing to think we couldn't get any yesterday.

Then I remembered that some group or another did adoptions out of PetCo on Saturdays, and we got there about five minutes before they'd have left, and sure enough, KITTIES. ADORABLE KITTENS. ALL OF THEM NEEDED TO COME HOME WITH US. [livejournal.com profile] feiran seized on a little gray one that promptly fell asleep on her chest. I wanted a gray tabby, but that one was in the process of being adopted. I picked another tabby who was part of a sibling pair. Since they wouldn't let us have three--we weren't willing to split up the siblings--we poked the other cage for one of the two black ones, and one of them stuck his head up, and I was like "THAT ONE." I feel bad for the widdle black kitty left behind, but when the other one looked up, with the beautiful black and white medium-length fur, and the most gorgeous eyes...well, couldn't resist, mate.

Beware--all of these pictures are HUGE. Try not to die of the cuteness.

Say hello to Oscar. Oscar, meow hello back!

He got his name first. We picked him up and said, "This is an Oscar." His name is alternatively Oscar the Bandit, as he's a little scamp, but Oscar it is.

And so well trained, too.

Don't forget Lord Cornwallis!

Sorry, bit blurry, but he's adorable. He was to be Admiral Lord Nelson, but he's not so much a Nelson. Lord Cornwallis--Wally and any variety of nicknames thereupon--suits him.

See, I'm a good boy, too!

Who lines a litter pan, honestly?
(Not us, we got rid of it promptly--Wally kept catching his claws on it)

Baby's first kibble!

Auntie theKathy wuvvy wuvs Wally!

Mommy Liz'beth wuvvy wuvs Oscar!

Play time!

Oscar could've been Bowie! Look at the bi-color eye action goin' on there. They are adorable. Between this post and my co-worker bringing in his teacup chihuahua puppies yesterday, I'm havin' that desire for small furry creatures again. Sigh.

Awww, Oscar actually has two same-colored eyes. But he just takes all his pictures such that it doesn't look that way. He totally is adorable in that way.

Those are CUTE. I demand playtime with them when I'm back in the city.

Oh, I thought you named him Oscar the Grouch. That's much better. In some of those pics he looks like he has eyes like Spike Spiegel.

Any time you're about, give me a ring. They've taken to most of us without question--the roommates and guests, so I bet they'd be more than willing to play with you.

He's impish enough, certainly. And he has this tendency to get caught in pictures such that you get that weird one eye color being different effect=l=

And that last bit is his registering his surprise and delight with his new toy--my laptop.

Also, sorry I flaked on writing again--it was theKathy's last few hours before she disappears to Europe and medical school, so we hung out instead.

Wow, thanks for the heads up that Kathy was actually going to Europe, I got in touch with her just as she was checking in. I'm sad she has to be in Philly like 2 days after she gets back :(

Oh shoot, I didn't realize you didn't know. Yeah, it's sad :..(

But you'll see her again! You might even run into her before me, who knows?

You'll love these. Wally is very cuddly. Yesterday, I just lay on the floor, and he came up and licked my ear and my nose. He keeps hiding around me to escape the other kitty (I think that's what he's doing). He also bugged me for my cereal this morning.

Oscar is adorable and purrs at the drop of a hat, but he's also feisty and doesn't like to sit still yet.

I adore the picture of Oscar playing with the light and all splayed out :) If only our cats were that cute.

He does that a lot--he throws out his front paws whenever he settles down, and because they're both little, they tend to splay their feet when they land because they've not gotten the hang of it.

Strange that lack of proper motor control is so cute when enough fur is attached to it.

Heh, it's cute in babies, too. We're just interested in seeing them not do damage to their brains and such when falling. In kitties, brain damage is cute!

..er, yes? Trying to tell me something are you?

I wanted ten. I would have adopted all of them. A) They're all spayed/neutered (the pet shelters here don't adopt them out unless they are), B) I won't never have babies to worry about, so they could have all been my babies forever, and C) well, building an unholy army of the night doesn't just happen, you know--you have to go out there and recruit!

Weapons grade cute. I'm so using that phrase next time I post pictures. I wuv kittens. I wuv our kittens!

A few year ago some freiends and I found a plastic bucket full of dry ice sitting on the sidewalk. No one was around it, no one came to pick it up, so after a while we took it to Lars' basement nearby.
Having nothing else to really do with it, we decided to fill the bathtub with water and make a smoke machine. It was fun, we took pictures, then we started to feel a little woozy, then we remembered that the day before, one of the local strays had moved her kittens into Lars' closet.
The kittens were all unconscious and the mother was slowly moving towards the closet door. It took a few minutes for them to revive after we brought them outside. They were a little messed up for a couple of days, but then they were ok. Not entirely cute, more on the dangerous side, but an interesting story nonetheless.

It totally is. They never cease to amaze me with how adorable they are. Even when they're trying to kill each other.

There was also the time Sam and I had a very deep philosophical discussion, then realized that it was probably because the air conditioner was leaking freon and we were fading out... we felt better after leaving the room but the conversation was much less interesting. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
