KITTENS!!!!
Jul. 16th, 2006 12:01 pmSO, for all two of you who don't read
feiran's livejournal, we got KITTIES yesterday.
We went to the ASPCA on 92nd street, apparently bypassing the NYACC's adopt-a-thon, much to our regret when we later learned of it (we ran into a volunteer on the bus home). The hardest thing about going to a shelter for kitties is that you can't take them all home with you. I truly didn't care what cat we got, kitten or adult, black and white, tabby, calico--I just wanted a couple of friendly ones with not too much medical crap going on to confuse me. It was so hard to not take any of them, especially as many were friendly and feisty. The ones that were pair-bonded weren't cuddly or active, but they were bonded, so we debated getting them. It was horribly depressing to think we couldn't get any yesterday.
Then I remembered that some group or another did adoptions out of PetCo on Saturdays, and we got there about five minutes before they'd have left, and sure enough, KITTIES. ADORABLE KITTENS. ALL OF THEM NEEDED TO COME HOME WITH US.
feiran seized on a little gray one that promptly fell asleep on her chest. I wanted a gray tabby, but that one was in the process of being adopted. I picked another tabby who was part of a sibling pair. Since they wouldn't let us have three--we weren't willing to split up the siblings--we poked the other cage for one of the two black ones, and one of them stuck his head up, and I was like "THAT ONE." I feel bad for the widdle black kitty left behind, but when the other one looked up, with the beautiful black and white medium-length fur, and the most gorgeous eyes...well, couldn't resist, mate.
Beware--all of these pictures are HUGE. Try not to die of the cuteness.
Say hello to Oscar. Oscar, meow hello back!
He got his name first. We picked him up and said, "This is an Oscar." His name is alternatively Oscar the Bandit, as he's a little scamp, but Oscar it is.
And so well trained, too.
Don't forget Lord Cornwallis!
Sorry, bit blurry, but he's adorable. He was to be Admiral Lord Nelson, but he's not so much a Nelson. Lord Cornwallis--Wally and any variety of nicknames thereupon--suits him.
See, I'm a good boy, too!
Who lines a litter pan, honestly?
(Not us, we got rid of it promptly--Wally kept catching his claws on it)
Baby's first kibble!
Auntie theKathy wuvvy wuvs Wally!
Mommy Liz'beth wuvvy wuvs Oscar!
Play time!

Date: 2006-07-18 11:38 pm (UTC)Having nothing else to really do with it, we decided to fill the bathtub with water and make a smoke machine. It was fun, we took pictures, then we started to feel a little woozy, then we remembered that the day before, one of the local strays had moved her kittens into Lars' closet.
The kittens were all unconscious and the mother was slowly moving towards the closet door. It took a few minutes for them to revive after we brought them outside. They were a little messed up for a couple of days, but then they were ok. Not entirely cute, more on the dangerous side, but an interesting story nonetheless.
