Our kittens might just kill me with the cute. When I went in this morning to put ice cubes in their water dish (they get a kick out of playing with them, and it keeps the water cool, which, on this already beastly hot day, they'll need), they were all over me. I sat down, and Wally kept trying to jump up closer to my head. Whenever I pick him up to cuddle, I hold him up over the BCDs and nuzzle with him. I found it indescribeably adorable that he wants to be at my neck/face whenever he's climbing on me. Oscar, not to be left out, jumped right up on my legs, too. They were both purring inside of a second. This assuages some of my fears that they loved their other mommies better.

I am so going home at lunch to take another thousand pictures of them being cute beyond all measure. It's worth braving the beastly heat for. Honestly, at this point, [livejournal.com profile] arcane_the_sage isn't the only one tempted to hibernate until the worst of summer is over. Personally, I like warmer weather better than colder--I can go outside and swim and eat ice cream with impunity. However, it's been so hot the last couple of days (and today, and possibly tomorrow), that I can't even keep up with my coping mechanisms. The fan is only blowing hot air on me, the freezer can only make so much ice when we keep it open to cool our faces, showers only left my hair wet for half as long, and my stomach can only take so much water. Yesterday, for writing group, I literally drank myself too full to cool down with more water.

My poor, poor kitties. I hope they are staying cool.

I find that chugging doesn't really help me. A cold drink finished in about ten to fifteen minutes will only last about as long again before I start to notice that I'm warming up.

Gatorade might be a good idea for the headache problem, though. I would like to avoid the headaches getting worse to the point of medication (I take enough advil around that time of the month as is).

That does sound like a good idea - remember, you're not just losing water when you sweat. Make sure you're replacing the salt, too.

I try to--god knows I like salty things. I have crackers and wheat thins. I supplement the water with fruit juice, too, which helps.

I'm going to take this advice to mean I need more french fries in my life. Pizza, too.
