It's time for Television Without Pity's 2006 Tubey Awards! The awards doled out so far: (1), (2), http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/articles/content/a12243/, and (4).

(Warning: there are up-to-date, season-finale spoilers for at least the first page, so click at your own risk)

TWoP, thou hast failed me! Not only did Laura Roslin not win as best fictional president (this West Wing guy had better be FUCKING AMAZING, YOU BASTARDS), but Mary McDonnell lost to VERONICA MARS?!? Listen, here, you, Mary McDonnell shits out more talent on her days off than your average WB'er emotes in the entire span of their career. I guess I should just be thankful the voters came to their senses and voted Battlestar Galactica the Show with Highest Actual Quality and Best Drama and Best Returning Show.

But what was a runner up? Veronica-fucking-Mars (uh, and House, but that must have been a joke, because even I wouldn't say it deserved the nomination). FOR ALL THREE OF THOSE LAST CATERGORIES (and, for all three, House was nominated again--slow year for dramas, was it?). Damn it, stop loving Veronica Mars! I am sick to death of that show, and I don't even watch it! "Most Overlooked Show"!?! HOW THE HELL CAN I OVERLOOK IT, IF IT IS EVERYWHERE I TURN!?!?!?! boigrwti349052ajkgfsjkf222!!!

And, Holy Jeebus, do people hate Ana-Lucia. She won Worst Guest Star, Worst New Character, and something else. Don't mess with the LOST-fanatics, man. They'll fuck you up! Choosing between The Daily Show and The Colbert Report must have been hard for Best Talk Show, but they made the right decision (just like Jeopardy! is the Best Game Show, bitches!). How do I love that the FOX Network won Worst Network Meddler? I just found out recently how very, very far back FOX's meddling goes (do you know that because they refused to let Marvel produce the animated versions of Spider-Man and X-Men, as opposed to Saban producing them, that FOX went ahead and just cancelled VERY POPULAR shows? WTF!?)

On the plus side, House is the Favorite Character and Hugh Laurie is Favorite Actor. CHEEEEEE!!! Take that, Veronica Mars!!! Other favorite award? Show with the Most HoYay going to Smallville. Can I get a Ho-Yay? (ho-yay!)

She is Veronica Mars of Borg. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated ^_^

That's cute, and really very, very accurate. You're not one of them are you? One of the Mars-coverts!? Because then it's less okay and I start looking for weapons to take you down (I'll need a couple because the Borg adapt so quickly--fortunately, having prepared for the zombie apocalypse, I ready to deal with the threat of Borg invasion).

Since when do zombies adapt anywhere near as quickly as the borg?

...and for the record I'm not a convert seeing how I've been watching ms. mars since season one. So I guess I'm elite borg ^_^ WOOHOO!

Humans can't exist in a perfect world. So unless we are will to drop humanity from the plan we can never have world version pi........ mmmmmm.... pi *drools*

Do you read Terry Pratchett at all? There's an architect/inventor in it who designed a machine that operated in a world where the circumference of a circle was exactly three, not Pi, and it like is some crazy no-space of magical hoodoo voodoo. It was incompatible with life, i grant you...

Not that I'm aware of. My reading list is very backlogged and a lot of things tend to bump themselves to the front of the line. At some point I'd like to do something about it.

On a more philosophical level though, I have argued about human incompatibility with perfection (pro and con) with others quite a bit. On the pro-incompatibility front humans are by their very natures imperfect so that can't really exist in a "perfect world" without losing their "humanity" first. On the con side: since humans have defined what "perfect" is, then if the collective minds that make up humanity wished to they can declare the perfection at any time hence making the world perfect by default. It usually is a fun topic of debate ^_^

You were actually crazy enough to take a philosophy course in college =-O Wow.... you're nuts! I sad in on one or two of those and they made me want to shoot myself.... repeatedly! The really good philosophical stuff were in ethics, interdisciplinary, and psych courses... or at least that has been my experience. *has postmodern flashbacks of how the universe is socially constructed*

Oh oh, this wasn't voluntary. This was part of the Columbia Core. Never read a book in that class that I didn't fall asleep right in the middle of (that includes books I'd read, like the Bible and Darwin's On the Origin of the Species).

Veronica fucking Mars might make for a better show...

See, I can't comment on whether it's good or not. Because it annoys me too much to even watch it. As I gather from the story lines, there's enough fucking going on in that show.

I'm just happy they got the comedies and cartoons right. Arrested Development, The Office, and South Park were dominant last year, with My Name is Earl also deserving credit. Since I guess there have to be runners-up for "best cartoon", The Simpsons and Family Guy can have the spot despite their suckiness.

I don't see how "Best Attention to Continuity" could go to any show other than Arrested Development. At some point I'm going to have watch all 3 seasons continuously just to get all the connections.

I'll take your word for it. I haven't watched more than the odd South Park or Arrested Development episode at all of late, so I mostly focuse on what I knew (BSG, LOST, House...)

I'm not so familiar with TWoP, but the shows that appear on this list (most of them over and over again) are from some set of shows they review, right? That is, not just taken from ALL television?

I have to assume so because Geena Davis as Mackenzie Allen not even on the LIST for "Best Fictional President"?? I don't CARE how few episodes they managed to make...

From: [identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com
Maybe that's it. I was under the impression that any show with a forum got coverage, too, but I could be wrong. I still smart for Laura Roslin. However cool Geena Davis could be? Mary McDonnell kicks a thousand times more ass (actually, she airlocks a thousand times more ass, but same difference).

To paraphrase: It would have been an honor just to have been nominated.

The Tubey awards cover ALL of television. They arent limited to the shows recapped by TwoP. TwoP doesn't recap comedies at all and Arrested Development and The Office placed in several awards. And The Colbert Report also.

Geena Davis was nominated for best fictional president but didn't place in the top 3.

I heard that. Although I've thus far managed to mostly avoid it.
