Oct. 9th, 2006 10:49 amOh yeah, this article deserves the Yoda icon. Anti-choicers in South Dakota are claiming that supporting the ban on abortion in the state (with no exceptions for rape or incest) is the feminist approach.
Cue yours truly EXPLODING. What a way to start a Monday, eh?
Several of the anti-choicers are women who have had abortions in the past. Now, okay, you're allowed to go through an abortion and find it abhorrent enough that you'd wish to convince other women not to get them. That's fine, but you have to admit that when the other part of the bill banning abortion that you support also makes the provision that emergency contraception can be denied for any damned reason the doctor wants, you're basically forcing a woman to have a baby, the choice that you, conveniently, aren't facing because you could have (and did) gotten an abortion. Fucking hypocritical cunt. That's right: I used the C word, again (twice in two weeks, that's a record for me--when I mean it, you know?).
And listen to this happy horseshit:
"We women buy the choice line. We're panicked, or we're being pressured, or we're ashamed to have a child outside marriage," Unruh said. She speaks from personal experience; she had an abortion nearly 30 years ago and said her life since has been darkened with regret and longing. "If you don't do your job right as a mother," Unruh asked, "what good is everything else?"
Emphasis mine. That's right, women, you're being pressured into getting an abortion when you get pregnant. Despite, you know, all those nutjobs like this bitch, who'd cheerfully and with gusto stand outside a clinic and pressure women not to get abortions and would shame them into having a child outside of marriage...and them shame them again for being A DIRTY FUCKING WHORE FOR FUCKING OUTSIDE OF MARRIAGE. GRAAAAAH!!!!!
It's taking the feminist message--it's okay to have children however you like--and perverting it into an anti-feminist weapon. Fuck that. And I love how her anti-woman stance stands out even as she manages to confuse the message of feminism with her despicable ploy to SAVE TEH BEBBIES with that crap about motherhood being your job, the only one you have to get right to matter as a person. It completely ignores her happy little situation where she got an abortion to keep from fucking up as a mother--she made a choice to structure her life so that she could have kids when she wanted and was able to support them best, and now she wants to deny it to others.
My hypocrite has a first name, it's B-I-T-C-H...

Date: 2006-10-09 03:14 pm (UTC)The pro-choice side needs to stop thinking that logic is going to win the day.
I will reiterate that yes, as a male, I have no right to tell the woman what to do with her life/reproductive wishes.
That said, I lament the fact that those women out there who have HAD abortions in the past, when it was illegal, and had them go wrong are no longer around or able to speak.
THEIR stories should be told. The woman I talked to when I was younger. Who had an abortion done in the 50's. Who nearly bled to death because it was done improperly. Who needed a hysterectomy and was barren the rest of her days BECAUSE it had to be done in secret and hence not done right. Or my friend who's sister died not because she got an abortion, but because she could not tell anyone about it and then commited suicide out of remorse just a week later.
Personally, I know to just shut the fuck up. I have NO say in the matter. But to make it illegal again, endangers those that are ALREADY alive. For the POSSIBILITY of those that are yet to be born.
DAMN you, religious right.

Date: 2006-10-09 03:21 pm (UTC)Then again, the patriarchal scum-sucking dickheads who support this, probably support women dying over illegal abortions. The better to punish women for having sex in ways they don't approve (i.e. for their own pleasure and not for the making babies). Goddamn these people.

Date: 2006-10-09 03:52 pm (UTC)And yes, I could believe the patriarchal institution would be for forcing women into having children. And would like to KEEP them having children. "raising kids leaves no time for being uppity." As I think a very prominent Republican once said.

Date: 2006-10-09 03:56 pm (UTC)That's what they believe. That it can, that it should, and that laws should be enacted to make sure it does. FUCKERS.
