So the first season of the revived Doctor Who got shockingly good last night. It's been fun, always, as the Ninth Doctor is hilariously awesome in all that he does (I like that I'm able to tell when he's well and truly pissed off by the dimunition of the wattage on his smiles), but the last couple of episodes (Adam getting the boot, Rose and her dad, Captain Jack showing up) have been genuinely good and not just silly-good. I mean, the plot is still exposition-dump heavy at the end, but I was hooked on what we watched last night.

Speaking of the Doctor, [livejournal.com profile] feiran was talking about Battlestar Galactica on our way to the wedding, Saturday, and made the comment "I wonder if the doctor is okay." She meant Doc Cottle, but we'd been watching all this Doctor Who, so I thought she was talking about The Doctor, and I got a little confused. When I figured out who she meant, I explained my confusion--what with The Doctor being in the Battlestar Galactica universe and all, and she let loose with this:

[livejournal.com profile] feiran (as The Doctor): "I lost the Time War, so I started a new one!"

Cue me dying. No one else has found this as funny as I do, but there you are, I've shared it with just about everyone now. And, actually, it's not universe-breaking for The Doctor to be in the BSG 'verse. Technically, FTL travel is time travel, and vice versa, so, if FTL exists (as it does in BSG), then time travel exists, and shouldn't that fall under the eye of the Time Lords? Seems to me they're the people to keep a watch out on this stuff, especially if Earth is the thirteenth colony and all (which means the Doctor knows when and if the BSG folk ever make it there).

Yes, yes I did. Despite the insanity of the plan, Eugene, Carrie and I stayed up late Friday to catch the repeat viewing. Giving us five hours to sleep before needing to get up and go to the wedding. But we all did it. Had to!

It's not at all continuity-breaking, and given that Who includes successive human colonization waves, a lost set of colonies isn't at all insane.

Even more interestingly, other Time Lords (especially naughty ones, but that's besides the point) have, if memory serves, a habit of picking random deities and entities to claim to be (this tendency is why, even though I've only seen MOST, not ALL of D10S1 (to sidestep the Who-Season numbering issues) I still insist that The Master could easily be out and about in current-Who).

I just bought the DVD of season 1, and oh I do love Chris Eccleston so very much. He's not exactly good-looking, but has this amazing charisma. <3 .
I still can't decide which Doctor I like most between Eccleston and Tennant, but I think I lean slightly more toward Chris, maybe just because he doesn't have all those scarily mad fangirls online who are all OMGTENNANTLOFFF. XD But then David is quite pretty, especially those sad sad eyes. :)

Oh and Captain Jack is WIN. I love that apparantly everyone in the 52st century is bisexual. XDXD And I can't wait to see him in the new spin-off Torchwood, which [livejournal.com profile] drakyndra is burning for me. :D:D

Also, a friend told me about this, have you seen it? If it's true, that's mighty scary...

I have only just heard about Torchwood, and I will check it out when I get through the Doctor Who I need to not to be spoiled. Anyway, I, too, love the unrepressed what-does-it-matter-anyway id of 52nd century sexuality. Captain Jack is a marvelous omnisexual, and so much the better for the rest of us, what?

I really like the Ninth Doctor, but what I've seen of Ten, he's pretty damned cute, too (in the huggable sense; when it comes to looks, well, sorry, no contest, Ten is cuter). I wonder if he'll be able to pull of the scary seriousness of the Doctor though...ah! no spoilers! don't tell me!

And I will have to watch taht video at home and get back to you.

::giggles madly:: FINALLY! SOMEONE ELSE FOUND THIS FUNNY!!!

I seriously, seriously, I was driving and I thought I might crash, I was laughing so hard. True, I was sleep-deprived and overly caffeinated at the time, but still. Fucking funny. Funnier still if you know the mood of BSG and try to imagine the Doctor, even at his most serious, stepping out into that world and being all "Hello! Ooh, look, robots! Fantastic! They look just like people!"
