A random collection of events from this past week:

-At work, I was listening to the radio. I can't remember if it was during Howard Stern or just after, but it was before noon. I suddenly had a flash of the scene from "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" where Alan Rickman, the Sherrif of Nottingham, is looking at Christian Slater hanging upside down, and the camera is looking back from CS's pov. And Alan says, "If you fail...I will personally remove ::his eyes widen menacingly for one second:: your lying tongue." That is possibly the hottest thing ever, especially considering as that movie almost rivals Harry Potter for how ugly it makes Alan Rickman look (ugh, that wig...)

-I sat outside in the frickin' heat under a tree along college walk, deciding that just because no one else was that that didn't mean it wasn't allowed or wasn't safe. Sitting there, I ate turkey and grapes, perfectly relaxed. A butterfly came over and landed on a blade of grass a few inches from my foot, a monarch or one that looks like it. For a moment, I was stunned to awe--I haven't seen a butterfly in the city ever, and haven't seen one period in forever. I felt like Lisa R, tried to extrapolate deeper meaning from it and just was left smiling happily. That was enough.

-Spike Spiegel's american voice actor also sells a variety of products for 7-11. Listen to 92.3 for 7-11 ads, and Spike will be selling you hot dogs, coffee, slurpees, etc etc etc. 7-11 has never been so sexy. I suddenly have images of Spike falling out the window of the church and a go-go taquito (MY TAQUITOS!!!!) flying from his hand instead of a grenade. He he.

-I have a job at a lab uptown: it's a lab tech position at a dermatology lab studying progeria (a disease in which children age suddenly and to an advanced degree in their early teens). My boss is studying whether or not certain proteins in the nucleus (particularly nuclear lamins) differe between control and disease patients. If I make it past the probation period, I get to take up to 7 credits at Columbia free (plus textbook expenses, of course).

-Carrie, Lisa and I have an apartment, E 97th a block from the park. I'm excited. Given how much weight I've gained since coming back to the US, I hope I make use of having the park to walk and maybe bike if I get my bike fixed up.

-I finally managed to talk to Rob from Midtown for more than two minutes and arranged to see him Saturday. Carrie was disgustingly grinny about this, but it really wasn't that kind of happy. I'm interested, sure, but not...eh. I'm not crazy about the guy, I'm just willing to give it a shot. If I can figure out where this might be going (splitsville before it gets started or something serious), that would be nice, 'cause then I would feel less awkward using the new, convenient Midtown location.

-Walking back from the Annex, I suddenly noticed there was a film crew lurking about near Union. A chair read "Vincent D'oh-no-I-can't-spell-his-name" so I assume it was L&O: Criminal Intent. However, if anyone knows if Mr. Buggy Eyes is doing a movie they might be interested in seeing filmed, well, there you are. There *were* a lot of trailers, but what do I know about the difference in number between movie and TV trailers? I just had never seen them for a L&O before.

-I have a hit song about a knife, and yes, I'm married.

I still can never tell if you're really intent on mocking me.

Congrats on everything, tho, mocking or no.

"My boss is studying whether or not certain proteins in the nucleus (particularly nuclear lamins) differe between control and disease patients"

- WHOA! For the past week I have been trying to forumlate a potential thesis project involving protein differences between control and diseased patients with accelerated aging disorders!!!!

Who is your boss? Maybe I have been using his papers as references!
What procedures are you using?

I'm not entirely sure what I'll be doing other than cell cultures, but probably blots and protein stuffs. I have *GOT* to take out a textbook and start looking at stuff again. Also, I will be working with mice.

My boss is Dr. Karima Djabali, if that helps. (and 'he' is a she)

Actually, Steven Blum aka English Spike, has been in a TON of videogames and Anime. Specifically, Char in the original Gundam movies, Gara in Bastard, Seichirou in X, Onizuka in GTO, Roger Smith in the Big O, Ken in the Street Fighter Zero movie, Shishio in Kenshin, Haitani in Love Hina, and dozens of smaller bit parts.

In games, he was Kou Leifoh in the Bouncer, Guan Yu in Kessen II, and Sun Ce in Dynasty Tactics 2.

Sweet, no?

Congrats on the job and apt, and good luck with Rob from Midtown. Who knows, maybe he'll surprise you.

PS: if you walk through the park more, you'll see lots of butterflies in the city. They just tend to keep a low profile away from green places (birds + butterflies = trouble).

There aren't enough butterflies in the world. I wish I'd gotten to the conservatory in the Daintree area when I was in QLD.
