They're making anotherremake of Invasion of the Body-Snatchers and this is to star Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig?

While I support Nicole Kidman playing to type as an alien, I cannot support this. First off, the original was fine. Second, the remake wasn't bad either (what little I remember of it). Third off, there have already been two remakes (apparently, Andrew McCarthy was in one; glad I missed that).

I could get behind this is Craig were playing the part Kevin McCarthy played in the original. The part calls basically guy with devilish, undeniable charm (check), calm self-assuredness without tipping into arrogance (check!), and who can then convey haggard but determined survivor as the world (sweeeeeet). It looks like the alien is going to be the main character, alas. Worse, it looks like the answer to The Invasion is to borrow a page from the book of Earth 2. What good's that without Clancy Motherfucking Brown? Weakest part of that show, you ask me...

The good news is that I was not deceived. I saw Craig and Kidman on a magazine together and I'd assumed it was for the His Dark Materials trilogy of movies. For a second, I got worried that it was actually for this one. Not so, they are both going to be in that (see, she does well to play creepy-ass characters, and Mrs. Coulter's a great one!). Also, my theory of "there are only 100 British actors ever" holds true as it seems that familiar faces abound in both movies according to the IMDB. I do like the casting for Serafina Pekkala, though; Eva Green has got a good face for a witch (I mean that in the best way, really!).

Looking at pictures for The Golden Compass also gives me a raging case of beardwhorishness ([livejournal.com profile] deepredbelle, that is the most wonderful term ever) because Daniel Craig is wearing it so well. That, and, erm, well, okay he's in a vest, too, see...

I'm not sure how I feel about DC's beard in His Dark Materials based on the pictures I've seen--kinda fake looking even though it's not--but beardwhorishness is THE BEST TERM EVAH. I must use it in a sentence.

The Lin feels beardwhorishness when watching Deadwood.

It works.

I wonder if "beardwhorishness" also applies to men with just sexy, sexy perpetual stubble, like Aragorn or John Constantine or John or Clive Owen in just about anything? Stubblewhorishness just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Being a beardwhore means getting wibbly over any amount of facial hair, but it can't just be stubble all the time. I would say Aragorn would count under beard - maybe not John Constantine so much, but he's cool on his own merits. Plus any 'ole man can do the stubble - it takes a real one to make a beard whore-worthy. And since I've been using this term forever I get to make the rules dammit! :P

Hey, I totally gave you credit for the term, so I won't be fighting you on definitions. :)

And you're right: stubble can be pulled off by more men. It takes somebody special to dothe full-on beard and rock it out of this world.

The Lin feels beardwhorishness when watching Deadwood.

See? That is the perfect use, really.

...but then I tend to place Timothy Olyphant in his own "whore" category.

I could write essays on Christopher Plummer being the trigger for my sexual awakening. Well, him and Michael Landon as Charles Ingalls. Heh. And maybe Peter Jennings. Um.

But YES. We are many, as I've learned any time I've used that icon. ;)

I heard that Invasion as I last knew it to be called (although wasn't there a television show by that name?) is not a direct remake and it just contains many similar themes.

Yes, there was a TV show called Invasion, which is probably why they went with The Invasion. Doesn't really help as much as they would like it to, does it?
