Wow, I got removed from a fanfic challenge for not having written anything. It's a fair cop, but it's still kinda ouchie. I'm impressed that the moderator was so thorough, though.

I miss my old alarm clock. The kitties smacked it off my nightstand (or just kicked it off when they scampered around on there) a time too many and the thing was working like those old rabbit ears do--only if you don't mess with anything. I went and got another one this weekend which, like the old one, just plugs into the wall and knows the time and day of the week. But it's not the same. It's got narrower and orange numbers. There's just a light that goes on in the AM instead of a light-up set of letters to let me know that (so I could tell in the dark! Or, more likely, when I'm resetting it whether I've got the time right). The same thing is the problem with the day of the week--there's just a light-up diode instead of a light-up "MON" or "TUES" as the case may be.

Alas. I started to get really bothered about this when I opened the thing and plugged it in, and decided that the best way to get the fuck over it was to just throw the old one away immediately. Done and done.

Former roommie and I set off a Chinese New Year confetti bazooka in Chinatown yesterday which is three billion kinds of fun. We also watched a girl set one off and the kids were all squealy and cute. Much fun was had.

I have a talking alarm clock that is fifteen years old and slowly dieing. I'm not looking forward to when it gives up the ghost since they don't make these anymore. I need a talking one because without my glasses, I can't even see the clock, let alone read it, so I just reach over and smack this and it tells me what time it is. Also good for Saturday mornings when you just don't want to open your eyes.

I never thought about the not-being-able-to-see thing. That's too bad. They do make super-large numbers on some alarms, and I'm sure you can get another talking one that's different but functionally similar.

Good luck staying on the wagon!

I'm pretty sure I dropped your alarm clock when you were moving, so I'm sure that helped a little too. Sorry about that. My alarm clock is acting weird lately too--I'm not sure if I'm sleeping through it or it just isn't going off at the time I set it. Maybe it's the kind of alarm clock that only works in Seattle, where I bought it. It used to wake me up instantly, even when I only had an hour of sleep.

My alarm face was dinged after the move, which was a cosmetic, not functional problem. The little alarm sliding switch broke one time after I found it knocked between wall and nightstand, so that's definitely the cat's fault. So don't sweat it--I owe you a toothbrush, after all.

Is there a problem with the snooze/sleep function on your alarm? That's maybe causing the trouble. It took me forever to work out how to use the snooze and I'd have problems where I didn't know what time it was really supposed to go off at because I'd hit the snooze without thinking about (another possible gray area of the problems).

If you need a new one, you can get them at PC Richards, I discovered. Probably also at a Kmart or one of those.
