THANK YOU to Q and Liz with the suggestions on the gel. I may have gotten the leak problem beat, testing it as Q recommended with ethanol. As it turns out, I can't do anything until tomorrow at the earliest, so that's that. But THANK YOU!

Getting top of separating gel straight

In my lab, we put a layer of isopropanol over the separating gel layer we pour, then let things polymerize, then dump out the isopropanol and leave the batch of gels up-side down on paper towels for a bit before pouring on the stacking gel and inserting the comb.

We probably use a different system though... our gels are maybe 3 inches wide and 2.5 tall, and our casting mold lets us cast 12 at once.

There's always the PhastGel system... buy pre-made gels that are tiny, load 1 ul sample, run with glee! Not as good resolution as the big gels though, and hard to scan. =( But... gel in 20 minutes rules!

Well, that's a good hint and I will keep it in mind. Q suggested that method, too. But it's all moot, the fact that I've gotten the leak beat, seeing as my boss confirmed via phone that she doesn't even have the right MW standard and I need to order one. I was gonna do it tomorrow, but I won't get a chance. Which means woo hoo! I might be able to put this off till Monday!
